We contacted our Congressman about getting tickets (ha) and they said they've been booked since last November (hahaha) but they were kind enough to send us this link...
there is a park (quite popular, so get there early) just north of the launch pad...it is across the water from the pad...you can see the lift off from there and watch the water ripple from the sound waves....it is just off US1..try looking on google for an image...it has been years since I was there..there will not be many more launches in the future...so now would be a good time....someone recently had a picture of a launch for a challenge....
I think you're talking about Space View Park in Titusville on U.S. Highway 1 near Garden Street, also Jetty Park in Port Canaveral.
Jetty Park...couldn't remember which one...but it has a beautiful view....oh, just realized it will be a night launch...I would get there 4 + hours...alot of people will be there plus many of them "tailgate" so go prepared...take a supper...might see if I can make it over but I'm not sure if I can get there that early...drat..

How are those for someone elderly? I ask because we're probably taking the family to Disney in April (spring break chaos!) and my Dad lives in the area. We'd like him to spend a day with us at someplace that the kids can also enjoy, but he has a hard time with hills and stairs nowadays (took him to the DC Zoo last year and it was difficult for him).

How are those for someone elderly? I ask because we're probably taking the family to Disney in April (spring break chaos!) and my Dad lives in the area. We'd like him to spend a day with us at someplace that the kids can also enjoy, but he has a hard time with hills and stairs nowadays (took him to the DC Zoo last year and it was difficult for him).
I know that Disney has those little hover-round electric scooters for rent. And both Disney and Seaworld have wheelchairs, though then someone has to push him.

My Dad's a bit stubborn (surprise, surprise) and won't admit that he could really benefit from some wheels. I'm going to have to do some research...I know there's a ton of touristy kind of places around that aren't that big, but would be fun for everyone.
For example, I remember going to Weeki Wachee as a kid (many, many years ago) - something like that, but closer to Orlando. Or like those places with glass bottom boat tours, etc...

I cant really remember Gator Land that well but I believe it was pretty flat thoughout the park. Sea World is pretty level as well but to watch any of the performances you would have to navigate some steps to get into the seats. Advice if watching the larger fish especially the Killer Whale sit high unless you want a bath.

ya know if you want something to do that is very "Florida" flat (for dad) and entertaining for the kids....ck out DeLeon Springs State Park, in DeLeon, FL...they have a restaurant there that is really fun for the "whole" family...it is an old grist mill that is now a restaurant and has all you can eat pancakes (and other food as well, all really, really good)...there are griddles in the middle of the tables you can come in with your swim suits (there is a large spring head 68 - 72 degrees year round, that you can swim in) scenic boat ride (1 hr) down the river....if you hit it right you will see gators "in the wild"....take your blanket to sit on as you can count on about an hour wait to get a table...it is a wonderful...off the beaten path place to visit...your family will come out with some great times and memories....(be sure to take your camera...great "falls" there to photograph....)
we usually aim to be there no later than 9 am...then the wait isn't as long...especially if you go on the wkend...we have arrived and gone straight in...my husband "always" eats something before we leave home as when his feet hit the floor in the am he is hungry...so if you are of that temperament...be prepared
how many are going over for the launch? And where will you be at...I am going to try to clear my books so I can go....would really like the opportunity to meet some of you fabulous people!!!
just talked to my husband he said that the launch has been delayed...I cked the website...no updates yet...so I will keep cking...just wanted some of you to know before you travel all the way there and see nothing...hmmm
right now the launch is scheduled for Mar 15 7:43 PM...my husband and I will be camping at Jetty Park near the launch...we will be in site #90...if anyone wants to stop by...but as you know...the launch is subject to change...but I am really hoping this is a go...will welcome anyone that shows up...would love to meet you..
