We will see lots of architecture and buildings in this one:) Will we see any people? probably some 90 year olds. I bet we'll see plenty of trees without birth certs so they will have to be withered a plenty.
Just got a letter from hubby's aunt who will be 101 on Thursday. Too bad she's 3000 miles away :( My uncle is only 800 miles away (nearly doable) but he's "only" 97. Not quite old enough!
I have lots of old family stuff though. The cup I use as a scoop in my sugar canister's gotta be old enough.
I feel a trip to an antique shop coming on! Dont think I have anything that old in my house anymore, although the amount of junk I have I may well find something : )
Theres also tons of old buildings round here and weird structures that druids/ romans/ saxons & other historical types made, all made which could be interesting to shoot

For this challenge first I thought of...and then I emailed...and then that led to a phone number which I will call tomorrow and set up a time to go get my picture done this week. hahahah.
After reading this thread last night I started going through my jewellery box because I couldn't remember just what I'd gotten in the way of old stuff from my mom's belongings. One piece was a neat old Waltham wristwatch of my grandmother's. The back hinges open and there were 2 dates scratched into the inside of the cover that I presume were when she had it serviced. One was '90 and the other was '92. Okay, I know that has to be 1890, since she died in 1956.
I decided to see if I could find any info about that specific watch online. That led me to reading the history of the Waltham company, then read on about Elgin and some others, which led me to look further into some detail I'd found that interested me, which led me... well, farther and farther from where I started!
After about 2 hours I still didn't know much more about the watch but I'd been quite entertained :D
Oh, and I still haven't figured out just what I want to shoot for an entry!
Damn... just remembered I also have a most exquisite christening gown, inset with rows and rows of very fine handmade lace, incredibly fine detail and workmanship... and nobody nearby with a baby small enough to put into it :(

I'm going through some of the papers I just packed away for later when Mom died and found my dad's grandmother's birth certificate from 1868. There's no arguing the age of THAT one, but I'd still score crap because it's just plain boring... I can't win!
Oh, did find one thing very interesting though... my dad's parents were married in Oct '13 and their first baby was born in Feb '14... I'm SHOCKED!!!!
I live in maryland so I am surrounded by things over 100 years old: churches, bridges, trees, famous landmarks, farms, roads... But I have a problem - I'm suspecting people want it to LOOK 100 years old. Around here, they do a pretty good job of maintaining everything. Even the Washington Monument is 130 but looks pretty new. I would suspect dnmc as the voters seem so literal lately...

I had the same thought. I live in Williamsburg--I took a picture of a gorgeous horse drawn carriage, but it looks brand new. didn't seem interesting.
Plus, how can my my wimpy little building compare with European castles? This was much, much harder than I thought.
This is getting quite funny, actually. I have loads of old stuff from papers to books to jewellery to clothing, china, kitchenware... and I have no entry!
I keep getting sidetracked. For example I found a couple old watches so had to go online to research the companies (Waltham, which I've heard of, and Tavannes, which I hadn't), discovered one still runs 33 years after the owner, my grandmother, died.
And looking again at the old birth and marriage certificates I learned that not only were my paternal grandparents not married when they started their first baby, my grandmother's parents weren't either! (Married in 1885, first baby born 6 months later)
So I only have a few hours left, no brilliant ideas to show all this cool old stuff, but learning a lot of family history that may have been better unlearned ;)
My subject easily met the criteria, it is over 200 years old, but I'm not sure I met the challenge of presenting it in an interesting way, we'll see...
