Got rejection #9 today for my current Free Study entry. It's only a 6.1 here so I thought it would have a chance.
I'm back to not wanting to "figure out" what the random screener is going to like on any given day. I understand the sentiment about the camera shots being "different", but honestly, how many camera shots have you seen with the guy holding his lens 1/4 inch from the water with an actual frog (or other wildlife) in front of him? I've seen just as many "camera as penis" shots. (not saying that shot isn't good because I actually dig it. I love his expression)
You really should just let it go altogether. It's obviously contentious for you, no need for it :)
Start your own website with your own criteria. I have a feeling you wouldn't have much trouble finding a body of people to be your screeners :P

What doesn't come through on a post is the level of frustration. It's not that high. I'm not all up on arms. Sure, I'd like to figure things out, I'm a competitive guy, but I understand not everything is popular everywhere. Actually, 1x could be, gasp, changing me. I've entered 3 B&W shots in a row on DPC.
Nice to have you watching as my conscience though. You always seem to post right after me...

That's just statistics. Being laid off means sitting on the computer too much :P

Ummm.... do you by chance have a link?
I tried my own experiment - used one version of a shot here, another at 1x. Both seemed to do very well. The 1x version is my highest "go/no go" rate so far of my vast array of images there, at about 80% with only three or four "no go" votes. I was kinda surprised by that. OK, VERY surprised. But I ain't complaining!
And you reminded me - I meant to link the camera as penis shot to my mom.... she has a delightful sense of humor. :-)

I do not understand why this one is selected. This is exactly the type of photo they say they do not want to publish. There is nothing special about it.

This one is so so. But no attempt to blatantly put camera in, it is there because it could not be avoided.
Hehe. I'm getting more love in the critique section, but that's like twisting the knife just a bit more... ;) They are playing good cop, bad cop on me.
Well, not one to feel left out, my first entry for this year was quickly tanked to the bottom of the 1x ocean. But, never fear, I am not yet ready to Abandon All Hope...

I'm not really digging this one. Despite the guy being naked the first thing I notice is the editing. It's not very refined. Although I do like a number of his other photos.
I have had 7 rejections so far, and I have actually found submitting photos to be much more interesting when they do get rejected. Comments are more blunt and it really pressures me to think more about the impact and motif of my photos.
OTOH, to be rejected with the single word "impact" isn't very helpful...
I haven't submitted to 1x for about a year--I have 5 published and 3 rejected in the short time I was trying. I seem to recall being careful with submitting because if you had too many rejected you would lose your slots (and not be able to submit)? Is that true? (Sorry, it's been a while.)
I think I'll try some more though--I've been trying to go back to the archive and complete some shots. Might be a good place to get critique.
Perhaps I need to see how my "favorites" do first though...
...ETA...I just posted this for screening. We'll see.

I'll post my rejects from before later...
I was playing it the same way. I only have 4 there. I believe you can submit for critique in the forum before submitting for real. At least that's how it was and how I got one of mine accepted. I ran it past them in the forum first and made adjustments based on the comments.
I think it was stopped by a screener, since that's the only comment :(
Reasons for rejection:
* Editing
Comments from members:
* Nice landscape but no real eye catcher
* It looks overdone
* wonderful colours!
* excellent feeling of depth
* THAT is exquisite. The colors, perspective, focus. WOW
* I guess this is an HDR. I'm afraid it just doesn't look natural, and hasn't added anything to the mood of the photo. It does look like a pretty scene though.
Additional feedback: Of those who voted against your image, four indicated that there is a problem with originality, three noted editing as a weakness and two selected exposure as a reason for not publishing the image.

I agree, although he has some great shots, (personally) I don't think this is one of them.
i had my first 3 submissions rejected a couple of weeks ago. it says i have used all my upload slots for this week even though i havent submitted anything in over a week. i wonder how long before i can upload one again.
Oh nuts!! What was I thinking?!?! I just uploaded a shot to there and what is funny is instictively I looked for a black/white category (LOL there should be a color category if anything) but then I realized I have 9 accepted and 8 rejected and with this rejection I will be an even 50% I'll have just as many rejects as accepted. Believe me - the criteria IMHO has gotten stricter and I know some of my previous shots would not have passed the screener now.
