At least 50% of my entries are a big disappointment for me. The other's I understand. But, most recently in the Life challenge this got a 4.5. I thought that was pretty harsh.
This one was disappointing to me. I thought it would do much beter. It was in a free study and most of the time I am WAAAYYYY off on picking winners, and determining my final my score.
I wonder if the "hidden due to content" turned off some people. I really don't know why the image has "hidden due to content" on it. She was swimming in a full bathing suit. :o0
Unfortunately, the 'hidden due to content' doesn't show during voting... so it would not have affected your outcome.

While I gave it an 8 at the time, it has now grown to be my favorite of all my favorites, as there is something about it that is both melancholy but alive. Both sorrowful, but hopeful. A truly unique moment of time that would have been missed by almost every other photographer here, IMO.
That it missed the mark in scoring only tells me how much the rest of us have to learn.
Hmmmm, not so disappointed in my Ansel II shot anymore. Just sold a print of it- well what would be a sure fire DQ edited version of it at least. New record for me- it had only been hanging up for 24 hours -a local eatery gives photographers and artists wall space for display and selling- they take 25% off the top, but I still come away with $36.
most disappointing was the Best Of 2008 score... I thought DPC was getting over the vote-from-the-hip mentality that puts down actually superb photographs, but alas I am incorrect. Personally, I am getting rather sick and tired of HDR or psudeo-HDR churches, it's great on Flickr but I don't care for it here.
This one didn't score or finish too poorly, but I was still disappointed that it seemed that voters didn't take the time to appreciate what this image is and how it was done.
This was my first (and only) venture into painting with light. I think that this is the best photo that I took all year long. I had it printed on 60" canvas and it looks awesome in person. With a light shining on it in a dimly lit room the orchids seem to glow.
I seem to get burned every time I decide to go for a twisted interpretation of the theme:
"Good Morning!" in Duotones II
"Emperor's New Shoes" in Footwear
"Charge -- Coffee Theft" in Mugshot
I went into the shoot thinking top 10 and came out with a personal-worst score that stands to this day. Poor composition and lighting on my part, and many voters probably didn't really "see" what's on the cup. :-(
We've all had them... shots that we just knew were ribbon quality material. Like Ralphie's theme on the Red Ryder range model air-rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time... we worked hard, we got it just perfect and knew it would connect with the voters.
Then the judging began...
And the scores started out well, but then plummeted in the overnight. And the "You'll shoot your eye out" comments started pouring in. And the final grade? Well let's say Ralphie's teacher was merciful.
Perhaps looking back on it, you're more skilled and you see the some of those entries weren't really that good. But some. Well some, you still just don't know why the DPC crowd didn't get the vote right (grin).
Which challenge entry of yours remains to this day the most puzzling for you as to why it didn't fare better. And let's try to keep it to those that really scored low... say below a 5.5 average. Not those that you felt deserved a 7 and only got a 6.8. :)
