[eta] week 3
My theme is "At home". This was shot from my bedroom balcony, so it's at home, it's just not of home. It is the sun setting tonight over the Pacific Ocean about 7 or 8 miles away. I also took some shots with one of my palm trees and giant bird of paradise at home, but the sunset wasn't nearly as spectacular at 18mm than it is here at 115mm uncropped. The sunset was nearly as spectacular last night also. I tried HDR with 3 bracketed shots, but it didn't turn out as well as this single shot.
Inland waters, flooded fields, farmyards. Widespread across South Africa.
update: actually not as widespread as thought- Mostly in the eastern half and an area of the Cape. Also found in Iraq (endangered) and Madagascar. Originally found in Egypt but now extinct.
See my additional post in comments for some very interesting info on its history and naming from ancient Egyptian times.
this was my submission for Live III. photo pretty much tanked.
this guy is about an inch long. i found him in my kitchen and he had just shed his skin so he was very weak. i was able to manipulate him into different positions and he wouldnt move much. he later ran away when he gained back his strength.
these geckos are very common in hawaii both indoors and out. they grow to about 4-5 inches and i dont mind having them around, they eat alot of the bugs that get in the house.
I have a feeling this one should have been my entry for the AA challenge, as what I entered isn't doing too well (5.4xx). But then I don't think this one would have scored much higher.
Well, I'm posting another challenge entry. I hope that's not a problem! I shot this image for this project, then decided it was an ideal choice (for me!) for the Life III challenge.
Week 3 My theme is life in the country and I had to shoot the basketball game tonight for the local paper. I know that basketball is not only a country thing but it is the only thing going on in the country this time of year.
