Posting this so my mind is made up - already spent 3 hours deliberating over which image to submit and still can't decide...so posting one to enforce me to make my mind up!
Ok just looked it up on dictionary.com, the first 2 meanings are:
A device or structure for transporting persons or things; a conveyance: a space vehicle.
A self-propelled conveyance that runs on tires; a motor vehicle.
so i guess an airplane would be considered a vehicle.
shoes
unicycle
pogostick
snow mobile
double decker bus...
If there are people out there who dont even know a plane is a vehicle then I feel sorry for those who do any of the above suggestions (except maybe the bus) or other 'unusual' vehicles... like a boat maybe :P
Darn what a day! Even just to sit to type I feel a little better! I took some good pictures of planes today on my way back home from taking my pc to be repaired (fan went out) I got home and looked at monitor, camera dock, usb cable , small laptop, and wanted to cry this will be my first challenge out of last 9 (open member) sitting out since I started! I guess I post it when I get pc repaired. Good Luck to all of you! I will still get to vote though lookforward to seeing what everyone entered!

Because you don't know what someone else may be submitting and you might just show a photo of something very similar to what they planned to submit. For example if you had a photo of a tire and you saw the one posted here you would not want to enter it anymore, even if it was a better photo. Also it causes people to decide not to submit at all after they see someone elses outtakes, cause they just don't feel their own photo is good enough.

On the other side of the coin someone could see an outtake of a tire and think 'I can do better than that' and submit theirs because it gave them more confidence.

If you are not submitting a photo because someone else posted a picture of a tire then you obviously didnt have enough confidence in your shot to begin with. The only thing I can think of is that you thought your shot was highly original and now completely devasted to find out that it wasnt. If someone has posted a similar style shot then it's pretty much a given that other people have too. Perhaps an outtake tire may save us from looking at 50 photos of tires. So be it.

My decision not to use the photo of a tire had nothing to do with confidence. My photo was just as good if not better but why would I want to use it after someone posts something very similar here in the forum. Everyone whines around when a photo is discussed here during voting so it is my right to whine about posting outakes prior to voting. It does have a tendancy to sway voters when they see one photo here then see another one similar in the challenge.

It's not, and I really hate it when people start up threads as soon as a challenge is announced and list every subject they can think of, especially the ones they plan to vote low on (maybe because they're unoriginal?).
I think there really is a "spoiler" effect to posting photos similar to ones in the challenge, especially since they "can" be specifically discussed in the forums, which can't help but be prejudicial (good or bad) to the actual entry.
I think the time to submit "out-takes" is AFTER the challenge, when there's a logical opportunity to compare them with the RESULTS and guess if they "would have" done better.
What about all the "Post your best/favorite insert whatever here!" forum posts? What if the next open challenge is "Pets"? Or "Action Shot"? Or "Sunset"? Or "Kids"? Or "Night Shot"? All of these (and many more) have had what could be considered "outtakes" already posted because of those "post your best" threads. There was even a "post your best macro shot" thread, and now there's a macro challenge. Should everyone be all upset about those "outtakes" being posted?
I actually have to agree with moodville and Eddy. Just because someone posted a photo they decided not to use, doesn't mean your photo is destined to do bad.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't see someone looking at an outtake photo and automatically voting all shots like that low... in fact, when I vote I give each photo the same amount of consideration on it's actual photographic merit whether or not the same type of shot has been in an outtake thread.
I'm afraid your decision not to enter should be blamed on only you and not the person who posted a picture of a tire that they decided not to use.
