LCD's on the other hand, aren't necessarily 4:3 aspect ration like CRT's are, and is understandable that someone could use 1280x1024 on one (since that might be the "native" resolution). I use 1280x960 on my 19 in CRT, and thats the resolution anyone using a CRT that are currently using 1280x1024 should be using.

The actual image size on a CRT is adjustable and can compensate to ensure a correct aspect ratio.
yes.. but the aspect you "fix" it to is quite subjective.. you're adjusting it manually.. so unless you have a ruler handy, and like big black bars on the side of your monitor, most people are better off using 1280x960 and sizing it to exactly the size of the monitor.
i really dont see it as being distorted at all at 1280x1024
the images i print look the same as those on the monitor - not distorted or out of scale..
i find the 1280x960 res to be kind of annoying actually.
any games, will set their own resolution usually 1024x768 if you have a decent vid card. so its not an issue there.
EDIT - on a none flat screen crt - sizing the screem to full width and height gives more distortion than i like...at 1280x1024 i have the screen fill about 90% of the monitors screen size to avoid the curved edges
I'm using a laptop with an SXGA screen of 1400x1050. It has a more limited angle of view than other stand alone monitors but I am still very happy with it.
I just upped my resolution to 1280 x 960 just to check I wasn't using the wrong resolution out of habit. This is on (twin) 17".
My eyes are average, don't wear glasses, but the text in IE becomes so small it is a strain to read (I use the "large" font size, switching to Largest makes no different, but might require a reboot maybe).
I can't see using any larger than that, unless you have at least a 19".
The challenge entries are also then smaller than I am used to, and I don't think I like that, although it does avoid the occasional scroll bar I get on a 640 high image.
Have I missed something with text size in the browser? If not then I think I'll switch back.
My screen resolution is 800x600...I just don't like how the higher resolutions look on my screen.
Ditto here. Besides, I'm so blind, I can't really see or read things when it's higher.
Bryce! Are you a Hilo boy? Loved your BI photos. Storm's a brewin' looks a little like Leleiwi to me. It was nice to see my fav white sand beach, too, Hapuna. Thanks for the step back in time, moved back to the mainland after 10 years on the Hilo side and still am homesick.
