Photograph what makes you happy and don't worry about the creativity clones around town. If they spent as much time being 'good' as being 'creative' their work would stand out more :)

If separate categories would give the Noob a fair vote and a push towards learning to improve I would be all for it.
I may have been dabbling in photography since 1974 but I still consider myself a novice when it comes to creative shots.
Some are born with the abiltiy to crank them out while others like me have to be trained. :)

being 'new' or 'old' shouldnt really have any bearing on your creativity. i would assume that most people, even if they are new to 'taking' pictures, are probably not new at 'seeing' pictures.
So why not take a fresh approach to things? Why walk in the same old footsteps as others have?
To learn, you then say. Well, last I looked in the upper left corner of the screen, it said that this is a 'contest'. Why in the world would someone enter a contest with something old hat? How is that satisfying?
I have nothing against people duplicating things they've seen for the learning of it. Do it all you want, it's great! Even ask for my feedback on your shots. But why would you do that for a contest? That's the time, imo, that you should try to use your own voice. :)

Sorry ... not my intent. There is a very subjective and fine line between expressing one's opinion and evangelizing, and I don't have nearly enough time right now to expand on that substantially.
Still, no matter how much/little any such remarks might annoy me personally I certainly maintain their right to express it.
Worth1000 I do believe is geared more to advanced artistic and creative works with Photoshop and not learning photography. If you choose to participate there I think you had better know photography to begin with.
They have taken it to another level from what I have seen after only visiting the site a couple of times.
DPC is more about photography, sharing the knowledge, learning and competing.
The title says Digital Photography "Challenge"
The DPC "about" says:
DPChallenge was created in January 2002 by two friends, Drew Ungvarsky (drewmedia) and Langdon Oliver (langdon). The original idea behind the site was for it to be a place where the two of us and a couple of our friends could teach ourselves to be better photographers by giving each other a 'challenge' for the week. The idea quickly took off and became much more in the months that followed.
Thus the site to me comes across as for learning and challenging.
Only is small print does the word contest appear.
I think that on DPC we as members need to be a little more understanding is all.

One thing that really irritates me is to see one of the advanced photograhers so to speak with a somewhat low "Average Voting Cast" in his or her profile.

Is it equally irritating to see newbies with somewhat high average votes cast ? Are they equally at fault for being too in awe of all the entries ? Doesn't seem to make much sense that way around does it ?
People have different standards of what they consider bad or good, partly based in experience - why shouldn't they vote accordingly ?
I think I'm straying off the predominant conversations by posting about the Water Challenge again...
I'm just going to take a picture of a pot of boiling water with steam comming off of it and ice cubes I dropped into it. That way everyone will agree it has water in it.. haha.
And, the drowning a cat post was so sick it made me laugh.
