Why the change of stance John?
because free thinking is not supported when it is not supported by the rules, regulations, suggestions, etc, posted in the site rules.
I'm scoring much lower than I expected. 60 votes and no comments. Wondering what's wrong. Finally I get a comment pointing out that there is a representation of money in my photo. Sure enough, there it is, big as day. I feel so stupid. If I was voting on it, I would vote it down for that myself.
I need to DQ my entry as well. There has to be a way to remove a mistake like this.

Um, that's the point of the challenge, I thought. Represent money, just don't use actual currency (bills, coins, etc)
And as far as "influencing other voters", well, jeesh, if I have that strong an influence, maybe I should run for President! Seriously, it only affects your voting if YOU change your mind about your scoring techniques.
The challenge does not say anything about "money equivalent". Just about anything can be a "money equivalent". The challenge details talk about real currency or their likeness (such as photocopies of real currency).
Yikes, had no idea it would create this kind of response. Sorry all. But since this is a very busy week for me I won't have a chance to comment on all the shots and just thought it easier to make a general comment about the ones that scored low automatically. Sorry to offend some but as far as influencing the votes of others, Please! Like I have that kind of power around here. Let's just test that, kay? Listen to my voice, you hear only my voice......... you are getting sleepy, sleepy, sleepy. Now you only hear the sound of my voice and by sheer power of mind I command you to give my entry a 10 and everything else a 1.
The point is that people will decide for themselves what to vote, I have nothing to do with their vote nor their decisions. And it's a free country last time I checked which means I have the right to make these comments. If you don't like it, sorry, but that's how I feel.
A credit card is not a money equivalent. The credit card itself has no monitary value. It is not legal tender. It does, however, allow you to buy things :)
I'm just hitting my head 'cause I thought mine was obvious, but after a couple people said, "i don't get the [object]/money relationship" I realized that my "symbolism" wasn't as well "known" as I thought.
If anyone questions why it is proper to vote an image lower if it does meet the challenge topic, read the rules--- "While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly." Not meeting the topic is not grounds for DQ so therefore the only way to deal with it is to adjust your vote. People who don't take meeting the challenge into account skew the results in favor of the entries that disregard the topic.
As far as discussing entries while the voting is going on, I agree with pitsaman and the General, and others, who take a dim view of it. The Current Challenges forum has a purpose, but it is not here to try to influence the voters in their decisions. The whole concept of anonymity is not as well spelled-out as it could be. It really is a very important part of how the challenges work.
I was hoping that people would apply the "Special Editing Rules for December Member Challenges" to the "Open Challenges"
If you feel a photograph deserves a vote of 1, 2 or 3, it is suggested that you include a comment with your vote explaining why you felt it deserved a "below average" score.
With a current score of "4" I was hoping for some comments.
I decided not to give bad votes at all. We do not have to vote for every picture. It is quite hard to sort out those pictures, which you like, but i think it is that, what i want others can do to me.

Please, do not give lower votes as 5 to me!!!
I don't think not voting is the right option. When you don't vote for an image rather than voting it low, it artificially INFLATES its score. Some bad images will get very few votes, and those will only be good. So they will actually do better than an "average" image, where everyone votes.
And what does your emboldened line mean? Is it a joke?
If you want to interpret as 'don't ever talk again', that's up to you :)
No offense, but when a site admin takes a side like that, it kind of gives a clear message. If you guys don't want people to post their opinions on certain subjects, then make it against the rules. That way if someone does it, you can delete the thread.
Deannda has been one of the more active (and helpful) participants in this site lately. If we want all the new people to go away, then keep it up.
gimme a break. i have an opinion, like anyone else. and i can express it like anyone else. why didnt you jump on GE, he's also a site council.
I will enforce the rules, but I can have and express opinions about things too.

Note: We don't have a way to turn off the little SC Icon by our name, but most of the time we are expressing our own, personal opinion in the forums, not enforcing any rules. It gets tiresome to preface every post with that disclaimer.
