This is my first challenge submission ever on dpc...and my score is so discouraging.

lol Houa, a 6.25 in your first challenge should be far from discouraging! there are people here that have never scored a six (and talented photographers at that). I don't know who you have shown your images to before but a 6.25 at dpc would get a definate WOW or OMG from (dare I say it) the little people outside of dpc.
I got my first 6+ (ok, 6.8) score in the best of 2004 challenge and its still my #5 shot!

Andi is right. It's not easy to do well especially in your first try and in a free study no less. The voters can be very critical and sometimes focus too much on the littlest of things but looking at your profile I can see you will do well here. You have a good eye and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
I'm screwing off at work and ripped through all of the entries for at least one full size look-see.

No doubting you have a good eye and some great pics Houa, I just hope you have a thick skin as well cos the 4.9's hurt and if you stick around am sure you'll add one to your portfolio ;) Oh, and most ribbon winning shots garner their fare share of 1 votes!

I agree totally with what Yanko and Ecce have said in regards to DPC. One of the good things about it is that once you have reached the point where all your family and friends are telling you how great you are.... you come here and get humbled once again. This helps to get you to pay more attention and fine tune things to improve even more. :)

lol Ernie but doubt I'll be passing you, am a massive 0.25 behind your last post. My current quest is to remove my older shots from my top 10 (guess its everybodies lol) so an increase of 0.07 by the end of the week would be cool :)
I'm going through the pics currently and noticing there are a lot of great landscapes but they are being let down by the fact there is no focal point or a point of interest etc. Technically good but I feel a lot of them could be outstanding with just something to show scale or interest. Maybe it's just me?
Okay I am almost half way through and loving a lot of shots.... so everyone's average should be adequately going up. I totally disagree with the other thread that the quality on here has gone down. Or perhaps it's the glass of wine that I'm drinking that makes it only go up in my mind :-) By the time I'm done I'll be drunk - there are a lot of entries!!
(for those that don't know me, and most of you don't; I'm only half kidding - I alternate with a glass of water in between)
