By the way I just made a new favorite in this road challenge. It is so nice not to participate and just rate:-) My new fav from this challenge is about a road that is pretty unique is all I can say for now:-)
Nobody (or very few) like to comment, yet everybody wants comments. How is that possible? I made sure that I comment on at least 3 and below scores that I put.
Yup. I feel more obligated to comment on the 4's and 5's. The really poor entries will probably get lots of feedback from others and the obviously great ones will always get wowed over. So I try to put most of my commenting efforts on the midrange.
If it was required for this challenge to go out and photograph a road the challenge would have simply been called Roads as an extra meaning had been added in the description, as photographers in this art form we were asked to be creative in the challenge and include this meaning, and it was kept to basic editing.
But as I said this is my perspective and we are all entitled to an opinion.

People sure are bent about this challenge. Read whatever you want into it, but don't try to force YOUR interpretation on everyone else. This challenge should be left to individual vision - nowhere does it say ANYTHING about a poet, nor does it specifically mention some lonely road.

Do you think many people were expecting to see pictures related to Robert Frost's poem? I knew about the poem but I didn't see the need to follow it. Just as I wouldn't expect many people to follow Alice Walker's theme in the challenge "The Color Purple"...just wondering.
...then again when I do a google images search of the road less traveled (//images.google.com/images?=en&q=the%20road%20less%20traveled) I guess I see what people might have expected ;)

Unfortunately I will not be home at roll over, but will write my perspective of the wording of this challenge as soon as I am able in challenge results.
Lots of interesting comments and debate about what the challenge is about, in the end I think the literal will win out, rather than a metaphor (or a shoehorn as one has called my photo). Guess we'll see on the 2nd. Bleh.

I sympathise with all whose well-meant entries have flown by the auditing system of voters. Nevertheless, as I think I partly mumbled before, a metaphor comes in two parts, the vehicle and the tenor. (Actually this is just someone-or-other's thesis on it, but it works for me - can't remember who it was that coined the terms either).
In the metaphor of divergent roads, the physical roads (image thereof) is the vehicle for the tenor, which is divergent futures through choices made in life. It's not one of yer complex metaphors, which may be why everyone gets a craw full of that poem in school :)
If you make an image that is intended to illustrate the tenor of a metaphor, then you create a third part, outside of the simple metaphor mechanism. Like I said, I sympathise and I'm all for the use of images to illustrate ideas as well as things. If a lot of voters don't - er - get it, though, then you can sort of see where the problem might lie.
