I am deeply offended. As a true artist, I never manipulate my audience.
You've got the box. There's deep, rich, dark chocolate in it. It's already got an address on it, and postage, so easy just to slip into any participating mailbox. But what you do next is completely up to you. The audience is always right.
It's funny, for some reason I started sticking a box of chocolates in the mail addressed to "posthumous". Then I realized the post office would just throw perfectly good chocolate away thinking it had passed it's prime. I'm now odded sedated from eating too much chocolate. ;P
Hi All,
I've just finished my 5 am - 5 pm duty on the charity bike ride: videographer and photographer. It's been GREAT except for the torrential rains yesterday. We've seen some awesome scenery, taken over 500 photos in two days ... not counting 3 1/2 hours of videotape.
Having lots of fun and very very tired. Gotta go to bed ... so I can get up in a few hours.
Will try to check in again sometime, but might not get back here until Sunday.

Oh yeah, I've gone offroading to get lots of shots, and knock on wood ... have remained in ONE (not many) pieces!
I need some photoshop help here. I just tried that Dave Hill strobist thing and I do not know much about the lasso tool. It says you are supposed to select the eyes. How do I do that? I find that i can only make one loop with the tool. Do I just draw a big circle around the whole area or is there a way to make to separate loops?
Get to know the quick mask: Q, I believe, but I always click the icon below the main selection tools. You can paint in your selections and correct mistakes easily. Literally, using the paint brush. Basically, painting in white adds to the selection and painting in black removes from the selection (or the reverse if you choose that setting). And you can choose grays to mean "partly apply" whatever you're going to do once you're done selecting. I always keep my paintbrush at 0% hardness so the effects feather out from full-on to not selected nice and smoothly. You can even use selection tools to fill certain areas of the mask. You can also use various tools to edit the mask, like sharpening, blurring, etc.

Okay......I'm going to toss this out to the lions in the arena. My perspective on this site and the voters has been drastically altered....
With the Weathered challenge, I have now turned in four 6+ scores in the last seven weeks with pretty much the exact same imagery.....and it's PP, *NOT* the images that seem to be what's the attraction.

It seems to put some credence to the complaint I often hear about this site's preferences for PhotoShop and/or eye candy rather than the quality of the photography.
Deb commented that she saw how the ethereal, dreamlike quality of the images strikes a chord with people......I understand that to a point, but I also feel a little cheap because I feel like I've discovered something that I can do to pander to a score rather than developing my talents as a photographer.
I actually did hit the mark on the effect I was going for......but I am surprised at the results.
Don't get me wrong, I'm exceedingly pleased that people like what I'm doing, it just changes how I look at how to enter a challenge, and how to concentrate my efforts.
I'm also now afraid that I may have taken about all the trips to that well that I can without it becoming kinda obvious what I'm doing......8>)
I would genuinely appreciate your candid thoughts simply because to a certain extent I'm mystified over the popularity of what I consider to be somewhat sloppy images.

I was hoping for a waaayy stronger start. And Anything but Landscape is still at 4.1 but I'm clearly not the only person getting bashed around, so I'll stop whining now. Besides, my Weathered shot did really well, and...well i think there really is a spirit in it...
Who, or what, is in the reflection? I was dressed in dark colours and well down and to the left, so I wouldn't be reflected. The only other *living* person on the property was the owner, who was nowhere near the set. There wasn't any laundry outside or lawn chairs etc.
Yet more than one other person sees a spirit in the reflection. Eerie.
