This is a very interesting comment. I assume from your remarks that you vote initially from the thumbnails. You only look at the full size image if you think it looks interesting in the thumb? Did I get this right? I've always suspected that many people vote this way.
As far as the image, the many 1's indicate a prude vote and the comments indicate many didn't get it. I think the photographer will have a good run here none the less.
I thought it was a very well done photograph. VERY well done. The lighting, angle of perspective, colors, etc.
However, I didn't see the tie to "green" as in recycle, etc. If anything, it spoke exactly the opposite to me. She was using yards of plastic wrap (and not "reusing" it, which would have been more challenge friendly to see, but who wants to be wrapped in casserole stained plastic wrap?).
So, while it is another use of plastic wrap, it is still an environmentally unfriendly product, and this didn't show how it related to "reduce, reuse, or recycle" in any way. She was using a lot of it (not reducing it); she was not reusing it (it was straight off the role), and it was not being recycled (first time use).
So, yes, it is a very well done photography. Unfortunately, I don't think it meets the challenge.
In a free study (as scalvert alluded to), or in a portrait challenge, or in a "blue" challenge, I think this would most definitely of scored at least a full point and a half higher.
How do you know that? I have NO problems with nudity whatsoever, but I would have voted this a 4 - and that has nothing with the "sex" factor.

Agreed, many didn't get it - but they didn't get the fact that playing around with a new roll of cling wrap is soooooooooooo NOT green! I think that score is better than it should have been.

The first pic conveys sex....not going green or recycling..this one really stresses the DRESS (made of recycle newspaper) and not the HUGE breasts and clearly defined body....like the other.

I don't think you can say that. The comments indicate many voters felt this image was completely DNMC, and the 1's support that. I think the image is actually "anti-green", the exact opposite of meeting the challenge, as several others have pointed out. The score doesn't surprise me at all. The image is very well done but in terms of the challenge it's a non sequitur.

I didn't vote low because I am a prude. I loved the pic. She is hot..and that is a good thing. I just don't like the use of sex to convey an idea....I hate it in commercials and I guess the same goes for my preference in photography.
sex for the sake of sex..is fine. Sex to sell other things, isn't. (in my individual opinion)
I fully agree with the not green comments, the photo is awesome but it does not have any real conserve or recycle reference. Maybe, just maybe the voters are smarter than they get credit for being(I can not believe I just agreed with the voters)!
Well, I'm off to vote. I'm glad everyone got me set right. I'm gonna give more 1's than I've every done before because I realize the importance now of punishing DNMC images! It always bothered me before to give a 1. Now I feel the freedom! It's so liberating! :)

I think it is a very clear example of people checking their brains at the door while voting and being way too defining of what an image 'should' be. The plastic dress is just an example of what is possibly the hottest trend today, recovered art. Having also received my first DNMC for the same reason, you can bet I will lead the voter by the nose and explain it to them in my titles from now on.
And that'll get you a lower score from moi. :)
Me too. Nothing worse than using the title to explain the photo and how it fits. That's the biggest shoehorn technique used here. The score would probably have been lower if a shoehorn title had been used.
I went and looked at this guy's website. This is the type of photography he does....beautiful women that are half naked. Which is a great thing...when it isn't trying to pawn off some sub-par product or some kind of values campaign.

Yup, what they both said - I voted it low too. Not a prude by any means, just figure if the challenge is 'Green', a chick wrapped in saran wrap doesn't fit no matter how I tried to look at it. I'm all for OOB entries and do take my time trying to 'get' images that, for lack of better wording, challenge the challenge. This just didn't work for me. Free study, definitely at least an 8...green challenge, nuh uh.

I think they're both DNMC, but this one is much more classy, and isn't conveying sex and plastic wrap. I'm not prudish at all, but plastic wrap, lots of blue, and big (fake?) boobs don't make a good photo, IMO.

I just think that the use of newspaper conveys recycling...because a newspaper has already been used. Even it is is brand new...the paper was already used as something to print on. And the use of brand-new..off the roll....kill the environment plastic did not.
I think vw8802's photo is wonderful and it definitely fit the challenge criteria. The model is obviously gorgeous and the pose is dynamic and sexy. I think what hurt it is the execution. The image is a bit too dark overall and the background is distracting. The lighting emphasizes her face and upper body, while the key element, the plastic wrap, isn’t visible enough. With slightly different lighting and a less cluttered background, it might have scored much higher. There scoring may also reflect a little female cattiness (mrowww, phfitt, phfitt), and the fact that some long time dpc’ers are tired of seeing sexy females used in almost every challenge.
