ive always wanted a bumpersticker of his theory "keep thy religion to thyself". but ive never found one... egads, my day is el crapo now. mmm
WE LOVE YOU GEORGE!!!
Somewhere, somehow, George Carlin isn't telling a funny joke about how people keep talking to him when he isn't around to hear them. It's sort of like prayer :-P j/k JDubsgirl. It bummed me out too until I went on youtube and started enjoying some of his shows. Now I almost start laughing when people bring it up (which could be awkward).
As a young-un (22) I only started listening to George Carlin about 6 months ago. He quickly became a hero of mine. I have now heard a large variety of his work varying from 1966 to 2006. On average I listen to at least one of his albums/routines every 2 days. His command of the English language is something I will always strive for.

I hate this one because it is soooooooooo wrong.....
This one too ... I guess he never took a cab to run errands ... :-(

Also #40 -- if a plane was constructed like the "black boxes" (which are actually International Orange) it would weigh far too much to fly ...
It's called comedy folks. George i'm very sure knew that the alloy used to make black boxes was unstable and very dense for it to be used in the place of aluminum. But he damn well knew the comedic value in making that joke though and that's why he'll remain my favorite comedian/social commentator of all time. Sorry Pryor, Cosby, Berle, Bishop, Williams, etc, George was tops in social commentary.
I'm so happy that you found the stuff thing. I was so afraid that someone would not get my comment about his STUFF.
I love his humor and the world will be smaller without him.

Oh, I know, and I appreciate the humor inherent in the vagaries of the English language. But I think part of his humor was intented to make you think as well, and I find no harm in coming up with a "real" answer to a funnily-posed question.
And as far as social commentary goes, I think Mr. Carlin's path was eased if not blazed by Lenny Bruce and Mort Sahl, and hewent on to become a most worthy successor.
wow I live in a fricken hole, I had no idea until I just saw this thread. No one even at work mentioned it. We need a George Carlin National Holiday...of course April Fool's day is close to it.
He was a true genius that will never be forgotten.
eta...I didn't realize we had the same birthday (well not year of course) :(

I was also very bummed to hear this today. My wife and I went to see him a number of years ago, and I swear we've never laughed so hard. My wife was literally crying from laughter when he was talking about "getting on a plane" ("F*** you, I'm getting IN the plane!"). My uncle taught me the rat shit bat shit thing a long, long time ago, too. That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard the news. What a funny man.
When I was in 8th grade my English teacher gave an assignment - each student had to recite a poem from memory in front of the class. We had to submit the name and author for her approval. When she saw that the author of the poem I selected was George Carlin, she made me turn in a complete copy, but let me do it. I recited Hair
"Have you noticed that our government calls the outfit in charge of all the great outdoors the "Department of the Interior?" How can you trust a government like that? "

This was actually printed on the jacket of the "Class Clown" album (remember those?) that contains the infamous "Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say on TV" That was definitely not going to fly in 8th grade English in 1982. I've never heard George perform it.
I was musing over George's "passing", thinking of his distaste for euphemism, and remembered that he once said that a hospital would call what happened to him "a negative patient care outcome"...
Dammit, I still can't believe he's gone... or, make that "dead", he'd prefer that :-(
