Ok, so i've never even been to San Francisco... but i will be there for a conference for the week March 23-28.
I'm thinking about staying for the weekend on the 29th and 30th, but i don't know anyone there. What better way to spend a weekend there than shooting with fellow DPCers around town?

labuda we may be peaking too soon on this thread, but undoubtedly you will have plenty of company on that weekend. If you can put up with it -- who knows -- maybe some of us will show you around on Saturday and some on Sunday.
let us know just how your schedule is firming up. After a refresher look at your portfolio (and what a refresher it was) you seem to like to play with anything that comes your way, but still, maybe you'd like to say just what you would really like to see in San francisco. We can take it from there.
Well I would love to join you guys but I'm on vacation with my family that weekend (it's spring break for the kids). Hopefully another one can be planned soon as there seem to be a fair number of Bay Area folks here at DPC
If we're going to do this GTG, we need to nail down at least some of the details right away. I have to make plans for this weekend involving other people and keep putting off telling them whether I'll be available on Sat or Sun because I'd like to participate in this GTG. If we don't determine this very soon, then I'll go ahead make my plans for Sunday and hope that the GTG will be on Saturday.
So! We've got C_Steve_G, Blue Moon, PhilipDyer, and SFAlice for Saturday. Blue Moon has a 5:30 curfew. Come to think if it, I'd be wiped out by then too.

Do you want to start at one end of town, and go to the other?
Do you want to stay in one place for a long time, and then head to another special spot?
Or: Shall we just carpool and see what happens? PhilipDyer has the biggest car
if he's willing... Or I can seat three if C_Steve_G wants to follow on his motorcycle.

I'd suggest keeping moving around to a minimum. Ideally, you can think of some spots with a high density of original photo opportunities. We should also try to photograph some less conventional perspectives on the city, not to end up with postcard duplicates. I'd imagine Golden Gate park + surroundings has a wide variety things to see. So maybe starting there and deciding where to go after?
I'd suggest keeping moving around to a minimum. Ideally, you can think of some spots with a high density of original photo opportunities. We should also try to photograph some less conventional perspectives on the city, not to end up with postcard duplicates. Certainly the Mission District (Latino area) or Dogpatch (Industrial), or China Basin (somewhat derelick waterfront - but on the way to highrise heaven) might be what you're interested in.
ETA: Oh, yes. Potrero Hill has some unconventional skyline views along with that crooked street that nobody knows about.
Maybe some of the others will check in with suggestions/ideas.
Hey, how did my car get volunteered? ;-) Actually, I'm happy to drive and am fine with meeting in GG Park and then going from there. So who needs a ride to the park?
Yes! The weekend of the 29th & 30th is just about upon us.
There's so much to see in San Francisco, even if it's been photographed again and again, there's still room to reinterpret.
For starters, the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is absolutely stunning right now as the cherry blossoms are out. They presently are at the stage where new blossoms are out and buds are just ready to open. So it 'should' be good next weekend as well. Hours 9-6 and my advice is get there early. Admission is $1.50 for kids and seniors, $4 for everyone else. Parking is easier, early also.
Then the Queen Wilhelmina Windmill, also in GGP, now has its tulips and should be well worth a picture or two. The Pacific is just a step or two away, with the Beach Chalet available for a snap or two, and the Cliff House just down the road.
Yes, the blossoms are out. If I'm not able to make it you can contact me and I can get you in.

March 29 is "Lights Out" day in San Francisco where certain landmarks, offices and various buildings are turning off their lights from 8:00pm to 9:00pm.
City Hall, Transamerica building, Coit Tower, Ferry building, Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge amongst others that turned off lights at the last event.
If anyone is hoping for some nightshots with lights from those places beware. Otherwise is might be a great long exposure picture with something different.

And great to have the heads-up on night photography Saturday night, faidoi. Yeah, a bridge picture with 'no' bridge would be unique.
Now, assuming Aleks left his car in Montreal, it occurs to me he should be picked up at his hotel. I can do that if Aleks will PM me with his local information.

If you guys want to arrive earlier I can get us in before 9:00am. I can arrange parking near the JTG also. Go to the tour bus lot and I can talk to the attendant. If we leave that area before 10:00am there would not be a problem parking because he normally starts charging after 10:00a.m.
It gets busy on the weekends so he would not be able to guard everyones car, so don't leave any bags in view when parking, even a lunch bag.

this sounds terrific, Philip. The less cars we have on the road (and in the parking slots) the better.

Anyway, yeah I guess I'll meet you guys at the Japanese flower garden at 9. Are we carpooling?...well, wait I probably can't cuz I'll have to leave at about 4:30 to garauntee getting to work on time, oh well I can practice my crappy parallel parking skills :D
