You obviously havent heard any Cradle then... i know Guns n Roses and infact November Rain is in my top 10 best songs
we are going purely by vocals here no? not "rock is better than blues" or whatever... which might put axl ahead of morrison or no consideration for tenors etc...

I have a hard time deciding which one I like better, rock or blues. They both rock...hmm, funny because they both have the same roots... blues.

Ok - well you get what i mean tho - it's like comparing Maynard James Keynan (Tool - and is actually quite good in that style) to Van Morrison and saying the Maynard is better because you hate blues...
Personally saying "best vocalist ever" is just fraught with difficulties... listening to bocelli sing blues is probably really really bad... same as morrison trying to sing opera no doubt...
eta - when i say morrison i dont mean jim.. i mean Van Morrison - who i dont really rate as a blues singer per se, but really like his stuff

Well explained. It all depends on style of music. FM could cover quite a few diverse styles and seemed to do it effortlessly. He did have a unique voice with a fantastic tonal range which he had total control over, not to mention a fantastic musical brain and a great frontman for his day. You will hear quite a few singers (including Axl Rose someone mentioned earlier) cite him as a great influence on their careers.

As far as Freddie Mercury, you could probably throw him in any band and he would have been able to cover it. That is for sure! As far as bests go, everyone is going to have their own taste. ;P
