The more we strive NOT to repeat topics, the more and more esoteric our challenges become. I'm all in FAVOR of repeating topics that are fundamental in nature. I like doing them over again, trying new twists on them. And plenty on new-member turnover means that a lot of people have never DONE these challenges before, right? I mean, should I never have the chance to do a "Macro" challenge because I joined after it was done?
In summary, I don't see a problem with this at all. "Reflections Without Mirrors" is a timeless and interesting topic, as, indeed, are most (if not all) of the ones that get repeated.

That's all fine, but we seem to repeat themes at the expense of interesting challenges that never get featured. It often has the feeling of nobody really putting thought into it (either the challenge, or the ruleset used). I seem to remember you making the same comment last week...
I'm kinda on the fence on this one - whilst it is nice to "have another go" it is also nice to have challenges which arent just a licence for the stock show of images to ribbon, like this one is with the obvious pull of the eye candy landscape over water shot. Yes you might say "do your own thing", but personally i am on here to compete, not explore my artistic side (i do that in my spare time)... the two are fairly mutually exclusive when it comes to DPC and getting a good score. (my FS entry sitting on 5.25 at the moment is testament to that - i took a gamble that people might see something in the shot - but alas as it was bereft of colour, i have suffered)
Then go out and shoot the best damn stock image of an eye candy landscape over water shot you can find! :-) If I were here to seriously compete, I'd have quit a long time ago. I just enjoy having the challenge in mind during the week when I go shoot. (And I do enjoy shooting, and seeing what I have when I get home, and my feeble attempts at editing.)

That's what I and the vast majority of DPC are likely to do. Given that a lot of the recent Rivers and Streams photos featured cityscape reflections in rivers it's more than a cliche shot - but not only that - it's really recent. I know many people didn't interpret that challenge that way but an awful lot did.
And if you see me entering a photograph of the London Eye reflecting on the Thames you have my full permission to confiscate my camera and lenses (and punch me in the nuts for good measure) :)
I just noticed in the challenge description "Creatively photograph a reflecting surface that is not a mirror while keeping your camera out of the shot."
Keeping the camera out of the shot ... degree of difficulty just went up a small notch. Well done, oh challenge writer in the sky!
I've noticed the whining in this thread ... let's not fight the problem, shall we? If the challenge bores you, go watch Curling on TV, or indulge in the adult beverage of your choice, maybe kick the pet you like least. Otherwise, give it your best shot, and try not to simply replicate prior winners in the two previous challenges. Show me something new. Tell me a story I haven't heard yet.
I'm in.. I completely butchered my 1st choice. It was so minutely out of focus that I didn't notice on the camera screen.. Not in love with my 2nd try but what the hey..

I'm new to entering the challenges so they are all new to me and even if they weren't isn't not like the challenges are reflections 4 times a month. In fact there hasn't even been reflections once a year. The reason I stayed here at DPC is because it gives me things to go shoot... it gives me assignments so to speak... but that's my thing I suppose. :)

Well "Bread" is new but we've had two other "panning" challenges before so this is really Panning III. I guess maybe they took my advice and got creative with the title because before they were called "motion panning". :P
What I don't understand is why have a challenge suggestion forum when so few are actually used. I mean did anybody actually suggest Bread?
I went to bed last night thinking of non-mirror and non-water reflective surfaces or locations and tbh I couldn't come up with too many.
In my mind this is a prety open chalenge. Anything you take a picture of, that is not itself a light source, is technicaly reflecting light. Take a picture of any subject but a mirror or light source and technicaly you meet the challange. But I'm guessing you will not score well if there is not a mirror-like reflection somewhere in your shot.
It is nice to see all the other challenges that have done the same thing, and take from them what you want to learn and do a different or better shot.If you where in it the first time around, do better than you did before. This is my first go around with this cahllenge and from what I have seen, it is out of the box, but I like it!
I challenged myself to shoot something with absolutely no water involved, and I'm really proud of my entry. But I'm also pretty sure that the top three photos are going to involve large bodies of water with the same mountains or rocks, the same smooth water and the same big streaky clouds that we've seen eight bazillion times already. There wasn't one single entry in the top 10 of the last Reflections challenge that didn't have water or some other liquid in it, and 6 of the 10 were lakes. In fact, 18 of the top 20 had water in them. I really hope that people will expand their creativity and try something different this time!
