What you want to do is use video editing software to create the "slide show." You can then use ECDC to write the resulting movie to the VCD format. I don't think Toast will be any different -- and it's Mac-based.
I know I can do what you want with Adobe Premiere, and probably with iMovie. I don't know what's available on the Windows platform.
According to Roxio's website the new version 6.01 of Easy CD Creator will do what I need :) I guess I have to shell out more money :(

I have Ulead Video Studio 6. And you would have to insert each image/photo for the time you want to view it 10s or etc. Then I see no way of pausing in between. It would just run as a video only with control at the DVD player.

But they're a pretty good company with reliable products and decent support. See if you qualify for an upgrade price. They'll sometimes package it with other software.
Roxio is re-launching Napster (as a pay-for-downloads site) in the next few days.
You can create gaps by inserting a blank or text frame for the interval desired. Or people can use the pause on the remote -- isn't that what you wanted, to control it like a DVD/tape?
I like doing a nice somewhat professional job of it :)
With maybe menus as to different trips or etc i.e. Zoo, Ballon Fest and so on.
I wouldn't be that good at creating these for VideoStudio.

Thanks ... I was actually up there taking pictures of the bay/bridge views when I noticed the Jolly Roger flying atop this student housing right around the time of Napster's demise.
At least they don't issue updates every few months whether we need it or not, and their old versions still work fine if it will see your drive.
If you ever upgrade to a mac-- idvd is a great way to burn and create dvd's, they turn out just like hollywood versions of dvd menus. You can do slide shows or movies and you can add soundtracks to it too.
After all the patches and fixes I have downloaded at home for our Win 2000 server, XP Pro, and Windows ME I am about ready to chuck them all.
Next time will either be Linux or a Mac :)

keynote is GREAT for slide shows, the only sort of problem with it IMO is that it is not easy to add a soundtrack (of course it is software not designed for that 'type' of presentation. I am not very savvy but I still found keynote VERY easy to use, lots of neat effects too.
of course iphoto- is the fastest and simplest slideshow program and can add music too
p.s. calvus--as a mac user i need to ask - what is a patch?? : )
