Thailand has to be one of the best countries for expats that I've been to. Really photogenic place with loads of festivals, and very fun culture. Modern, convenient and cheap also.
Only thing that puts me off is the huge amount of expats!
I'm not all that well travelled but if I had to choose from somewhere I have been, it would probably be Canada or anywhere in the same part of the states where Bear_Music lives. The colours in autumn are just amazing. I visited that area nearly 20 years ago it has left a lasting impression. Ireland also appeals to me.
If I had the cash so I didnt have to work and could just travel the country shooting all day then I would go to Scotland. Not one of the cities, something a bit more remote, but with broadband and sky-plus.
Southern France has the advantage of History, being a developed country, easy access to sea and mountains, great food, great climate and you're within a day's drive/train ride of Spain and Italy and well, most of Europe, really.

saint andrews? last summer I was in scotland and precisely in saint andrews. is a very good city and if you love the golf there is the old course :)

One day... my friends... this will be real :P and I only wish reincarnation is true, and I get to be the first photographer on Mars. I wonder if my pictures would get DNMCs because I am not on earth. We should add that to rules "Pictures taken On earth or on another planets"

you know I hear about how the french refuse to speak english, but really, in the States i encountered many people who didnt like it when someone didnt speak english.

How in the world will I get my Belgian boyfriend to go to France huh? His hatred toward the French is unbelievable :-D
But he does drive a Renault nowadays...so it's getting better :-D

That I can understand because English is the most common language to speak all over the world. The French seem to think everybody should speak French.
Canada but for the CRTC, the federal Conservatives and Stephen Harper, cell phone wireless prices that are worse than in developing countries, the baffling obsession with hockey, and Celine Dion. Otherwise it's a go. Also Germany.

Sorry but having spent nearly a year in France I have to disagree with that generalisation. If you make the effort to speak French (and why shouldn't people?) they really appreciate it and will respond in English if they can - that's my overall experience.
I went to France with all sorts of misconceptions about the French but didn't really find them vastly different to the English, with a few exceptions.
By the way, I'd recommend the UK. Now most British people have the endearing if slightly annoying belief that they're terribly hard done by and things run much better in other countries. After my time in France I can exclusively reveal that this is categorically not the case!
We may not be the prettiest country (although there's a great deal of beauty to be seen) and we may not have the best weather, but I happen to think very highly of the British: their sense of humour, their stiff upper lip, their diversity, the way they say sorry if someone walks into them, the way they're always talking about the weather... Some of the countryside is glorious and some of our cities are the most incredibly vibrant, exciting places (London of course is terrific).
So come over here. We're losing a lot of people to Australia and France these days so we could use a few from across the pond :)
