I am having a bit of trouble voting here..
The challenge description says "show something in the act of opening", that means "opening" as a verb or action. Given that, IMHO the images showing just somesort of holes, regardless how strong they could be, should be dnmc's, 'cause they are using the word "opening" as a noun and there is nothing in the ACT of opening in the image.
I would like to know what other users think about it.

That was pretty much my take when I voted BUT I found that I had to use a very broad definition because there were so many photo's that otherwise would not meet the challenge.
Many "Openings" (noun) are dynamic and could be in the process of opening even though it's very slowly. I suppose it's up to the individual voter.
I'm actually surprised myu entry is doing this well, I was rather dissapointed in it. I had an different shot of the same subject that I was happier with, but it did not fit the theme of the competition.
I wish i hadn`t cropped mine so tightly as I`m getting too many "out of focus" comments. I`m not giving anything away but I was over 100 metres away from the subject to get the photo. ....Grrr I deserve a medal.
