I'll say ouch too. I thought it was clever. Guess not. After looking at it on another computer (here at work) It doesn't seem so good. Oh well.
I currently have 3 monitors at home, one fully callibrated, two not. Of the two not calibrated one is on my laptop.
I have started scaring myself now by looking at a potential entry on all 3 monitors and it is worrying how different they can look. I suspect the number of people viewing the pictures on a calibrated monitor is pretty low. So it's difficult to guess how anyone else is seeing your carefully 'tweaked' pictures.

Thanks for the info! I think now maybe I should tweak my photos a bit lighter. Here at work, it looks dark but the noise looks better. I guess take one trade for another.
Its sllllloooooowwwwwwwllllllyyyyy creeping up to a 4.9 now. If I can get at least a 5.25 and keep my average, I'll be ok.
I put in for a self dq when the score dropped below 5. But Aimee talked e out of it. So I have now put in to not self dq. Oh well. I am very pleased with the technicals of this image - especially with basic editing. Another shot to go on my wall that scored sucky. ;)

I know what you mean Tim. I almost did the same thing this morning but decided to see where it is going since it is kind of still creeping up in score. Won't get a ribbon but hopefully not a brown.
But mine is one of those that you either love it, or hate it. So my guess I will right in the middle. I decided to have fun with this challenge regardless if I place anywhere. :)
I think I have hit a point on this site where I am so fed up with how people vote. There has got to be a way to get better results with voting. If every picture in the challenge has a toy in it regardless of the quality of the picture it should meet the challenge rules. Looking thru the pictures there shouldn't be anyone giving out anything lower than a 4. This is getting ridiculous.
Personally from the little time I have been able to observe, it seems to me that people put more emphasis on the pop/wow factor regardless of anything (however the winners truly deserve to be ontop) and omitt others if they dont meet this criteria. Regardless if photo is original, or conveys an interesting message your photo will not be top unless it conveys that wow/pop factor into it. I could be wrong, but I will be spending lots of time learning more about photoshop. :)

Why? I think all voters should be free to use the voting scale how ever they choose. As long as the voter uses the same scale for all images he/she votes on, it should be a wash. Of course, if that same voter with a comparatively low voting scale only votes on 20% of the challenge and you are one of them...but with at least 150 votes per image (the least I've ever received) it will all average out.
Edit: What's the point of having 1-10 if no-one uses 1-3? You might as well score it 3-10 or 1-7 and you will still be in the same boat compared to other images entered.

I'm not sure I quite understand what you're saying. But eventhough I tend to give out high votes, I did give a few votes less than 4.
Not because of DNMC or anything but mostly for the quality of the photo.
