Why aren't there any ribbon winning photos for the d40?
I think something has to be done about this. The d40 is an excellent camera for it's price and deserves to have at least one ribbon shown when you click on it's name here.
I think all of us d40 owners should make some free time and enter every challenge we can with the best we can come up with until we get a ribbon on that "Highest rated photos" page for the d40. (Not brown!)
Theres a perfectly logical explanation for the fact that there arent any ribbons with the D40 yet:
The D40 is a low priced entry level camera, which only recently hit the market. Those buying the camera are people new to SLR photography; more experienced photogs will buy the D80, and while pros may use the D40 as their "compact" or backup, they do their serious (DPC!) work with their pro models. Therefor, I hypothesize that those that bought the D40 are only now beginning to catch up on the DSLR learning curve, to the point where they can compete with the Ribbon Hogs of DPC. Given this trend, we can expect all ribbons at DPC to be won with Nikon D40s within a year.

Yeah, this is my first DSLR, and budget combined with lack of skill led to the D40. But look out now! (If I keep telling myself that it mayyyyy work, right?)

Although some of my dearest photography friends hail from the Canon world, let's face it...the best camera (Nikon, Canon or whatever) is the one held within...the hands of Imagination.
Personally, I'm never a contender in the challenges (I can't seem to collect either a blue or a brown...::sigh::), but always I consider myself above all else...a Survivor. I even tried to pray for one of those ribbons (and I'm not particularly a religious person), but unfortunately, all those angels could do was shake their heads, hand me a numbered ticket and tell me to get in line. (Based on the number of the ticket, I'm gonna be here for a long while...YIKES!!!)
So, Good Luck on your Quest for the Holy Grail in the Realm of Blue!! I have every faith that if anyone can do it...it'll be YOU.
I think you are a strong contender for getting the first ribbon. You are already the top rated d40 owner!

Camera doesn't make the photographer, the photographer does.
In saying that, you should be able to buy a disposable camera and win a blue. Use your imagination. I wish I could, but years of working, stress, and ass chewings have left little to my imagination(lol)! Get out your D40's and kick ass. It may be entry level, but it's still a Nikon. That should take care of it by itself.

Well, D40 or not, my personal philosophy about all of those wonderful Blue winning "Ribbon Hogs" and beyond is this...

Hey, Sheila, welcome to DSLR world! I hadn't noticed the upgrade. Now you and I both have to work hard to bump our S2 IS photos out of our top row with the fancy schmancy equipment. :) I'm not making it any easier on myself - two in my top row were both with the S2 IS in the past couple of months.

Well, my heart belongs to your team mates Metatate and Shmee, but if the truth be told...I could trade cameras with the best of best (e.g. the legendary Larus) whose stellar talent would without a doubt shine brilliantly through my little D40, and whose recycle bin would be better than my best photo.
Of course, on the flip side, if you put a 5D in my hands...I'd be lucky to figure out how to turn it on. LOL.
