Must have been a horrible sound when they collided. Then followed by explosions and total caos on the ground. I would never want to witness anything like that. I actually get a sick feeling in my stomic seeing it in movies even though I know it is all special effects.
He kind of sounded like Radar from MASH.. I reckon he was in shock. Imagine being up in a news helicopter reporting a story and looking over and seeing what he saw. That had to freak the crap out of him.

At the end he started hyper ventilating. But you heard no running, sounded like noise canceled microphone recording from a copter. It just seemed like dude, okay we get it.
I guess im that heartless guy that stands there snapping the shutter.....
Unfortunate situation...but maybe this may change a few things with car chases.
Personally, I would like to see anyone running or being chaased in the car just straight out gunned down. Game over, no chance to endanger any other innocents. You run, your done!

It just seems you are unable to empathize with the tragedy and the loss of life. The people who died today are fathers and sons. I would hope you could keep that in mind before just spouting off.

The news crews were helping the police with the chase. So apparently the person involved can be held responsible.
Looks like the news outlets need to re-think their offer of helping the police in chases. They were very lucky that
only 4 people were killed. I suspect if they'd landed in a school yard and killed 30 children they'd find they have deeper pockets than the thief!

Sounds to me like the pilots were too caught up in the chase themselves to monitor their airspace. Every pilot I've ever worked with is VERY cautious of other aircraft, even way out here in the middle of nowhere.
The tragedy here is that this accident was probably 100% avoidable...

Heh, and people get prosecuted for not helping someone who is drowning (negligence my ***). Its bullshit but doesn't stop man from making it happen!

If I understand correctly, if a police car were to hit a civilian during the chase, the offender would be held criminally responsible in Arizona. While is probably really too early to speculate the path the prosecutors will take, the chief of police made reference to prosecution of the offender for the news crews' deaths.
He stole two cars (two counts of grand theft auto) and endangered lots of lives (reckless endangerment) and evaded arrest and breaking and entering and likely more charges... so, I dunno if prosecutors would need those charges anyway, unless it's just a PR stunt for a gungho prosecutor.

Welcome to the "it's always someone else's fault" society. unless there was mechanical failure, there is no one to blame but the pilots. There is no reason for two copters to get any where near that close. Getting that close to shoot a car chase is just nuts??!! Sad story, sad that 4 people died over something as stupid as a would be highlight on the evening news.

But this is something you cant call a crock. If they were two police helicopters chasing down a car and hit. Accident or not you can bet your ass they would be charged. They were news helicopters makes it slightly different but i think it will easily come down to "They Were Helping the Police" Which i don't believe 100% anyways. Doesn't change the fact that 4 people are dead and millions of dollars in equipment destroyed.
Here is the link to the Felony flight law for Arizona. This is now what Channel 3 news is indicating they might use to charge the person with the deaths. I guess we will find out more after the investigation is complete.

I work with helicopters everyday, and know alot of pilots. Every single story I've heard about machines going down... its ALWAYS pilot error. In this case, both machines wouldve had to experience simultaneous mechanical and radio failures in order to take the blame off the pilots; otherwise, they had absolutely no excuse to be flying in such close proximity that a collision could result.
