yes, the holes go through the metal but the metal isn't too thick.

I will try to answer this as best I can without making it more confusing.
The item itself generally is used indirectly by many people (it is part of something else which people very commonly use).
I took a picture of one of these things that is attached to something that not everyone has a license to use.
