It's rather funny... I was thinking this morning about asking for a validation on my shot, since a couple comments had questioned if it was basic, but I waffled, decided to see if anyone else commented on it. Well, when I signed in now, there was the request!
No worries though, because it was VERY basic editing :)
I'm doing quite bad, and the score keeps decreasing every time I check it!
Anyway, that's fine, we say in Italy that if you don't attempt you don't make mistakes... I learned a lot from this submission, and it's a good thing!

Why do people request validation of photos anyways?
I could understand if it was some alien-like form of photography in a challenge with basic or minimal editing,
but I don't recall any shots like that in the bubble challenge..
I swear most of the time on this site it is opposite day.....the last two pictures I turned in I have not been pleased with at all and they are both on my top score list and this one that I was so proud of and loved is getting one of my worst scores... :(
I feel as though many times people don't stop and really look at the photo, you know?
I guess I've done it myself at times when I've been rushed to vote quickly, but I hate it when someone enters a picture they put effort into and people just don't stop and really look at it.
I guess stopping at looking can trigger a bad vote as well, but still. >.>

Well, I must admit that when I looked at even the original I thought that one certain factor looked almost too nice to be real, so I am not at all surprised that others felt that one part might have had extra "touching-up". But it really didn't!

Joe, I request validation whenever I doubt that the photo could've been produced legally. It's really as simple as that. I then vote assuming it's legal - that part is important.
I look at it as doing the person a favor - if I'm wondering, I'd bet there are other wondering as well. And there's nothing like having "this photograph has been validated" underneath to cut those thoughts off before they affect your score.
Most DQs I've seen have been simple mistakes - either not reading the rules the right way or going a little too far. Deliberate cheating attempts seem to be few and far between. So I don't see hitting that button as accusing anyone of nefarious behavior, just maybe making a mistake.
I really like it when I get a validation request - it means I found a way to do something that at least one person couldn't figure out themselves. :) My recent night shot entry is a good example of that.
Whenever I think a validation request is likely, I submit my original early - sometimes even before the voting begins. Then SC has it available immediately if a request comes in. Again, I did that on night entry. Sure enough, not 2 hours into voting a validation request came in.
