I can agree with that, but along with not able to do this months free study. This site is my habbit, major withdraws this month. (again my choice).

I am not sure how my statement represents enjoying only one thing and hate anything thats different. I'm expressing my thoughts on having ALL of the current challenges under the expert of mininal editing. I have no qualms with having them as long as we have an option as well.

You can still do the Free Study. You don't have to do any editing if you don't want to. :-)

Why should good post processing skills be pre-requisite in any challenge regardless whether they be 'expert' or not?

You can win the blue even if you apply the 'minimal' ruleset to the right photograph. That would be the REAL challenge for the best photographers.

Yes I can...I can also submit a day shot in the night challenge, both will have the same results.....Expert editing is great for the folks that are into it. I'm not. Yet I'm disappointed as a memeber most this months challenge I'll not enter...(again my choice)

This makes absolutly no sense at all. Just because you chose not to use the flexibility that the Expert editing provides you, doesn't mean you can't enter a photo in the challenge. Again, It seems you just want a reason to complain by saying "I can't enter because it's Expert editing."

You can enter the Free studies just as I do now, I enter nearly all my shots in basic editing. The last 2 I have entered I've finished top 100 and then 112th in them with basic shots. The problem I see and I think that you see with this is.........
This sites voters are about eye candy and comparing the next shot voted to the one you just voted on. Here is where I see the problem lies. If I enter even a really good(for me) basic or even advanced edited shot and it is compared to the multiple exposure/photoshopped/composites which is pretty much how the voters do it, I'm going to have a lower then normal score because were pretty much put on a voting curve. Eye candy at the top and others somewhere below. This is just my opinion yours may vary.
I'm not all that good at editing. So I see this as an opportunity to maybe try things I wouldn't normally try. Score may not be good, but score ain't everything. Then again, I may get a shot I really like that I do my usual editing to - most of which qualifies as basic.
Why the sudden rush of Expert editing? We currently have 3 challenges with Expert editing and one with minimal editing. So you either have photoshop out the ying yang, or no editing at all. Uggg. anyone else wishing for Basic and advanced besides me?

I also stated that I'm really looking forward to seeing the results of those who are great with PS. Wasn't being sarcastic. Love some of the cool stuff that folks pull off here.

I may be wrong, and if I am I'd appreciate being corrected but it appears to me that except for a couple of April Fool, low entry speed challenges, there hasn't been a challenge with the 'expert' rule set since January. Roughly 35 challenges ago.
Maybe it's me but this whole complaint is rediculous and Idnic got it absolutely right with her OMG. This week hardly constitutes a shift from DPC to DPP as a number have suggested and just strengthens my belief that a small but very vocal number will never be satisfied until they are convinced that this site is tailor made for them each and every week. To cancel a membership over something like this, as one member has suggested just blows the mind.
I'm really excited about this week myself. "Hair" in particular. For me it's the topic of the challenge that determines if I'll enter or not. I don't care what ruleset is decided on for it, but I do love the fact that there can be so much variety from one challenge to the next. The only way I'll get as good as I would like is to try many different styles using many different techniques, and the rulesets go a long way to enforcing that variance.
While I agree that there are some people that are going way overboard in reaction, I think that it's also perfectly reasonable to maintain a little concern and hesitation about the expert editing and it being the ruleset for 3 out of 4 challenges for a week.
My only point is that there are two open challenges.. I don't see a need for both of them to be one ruleset. However, *if* it does the job of showing us/SC/whoever that the rules could use a revision and overhaul, then that's a good thing.
I, for one, remain in the camp of hesitancy. I'll certainly be paying close attention to how this week unfolds.
I've been wondering about something. Are the voters going to be looking for major post processing in the expert editing challenges? What if someone puts in a real nice picture that used only basic editing? Will it get voted down because it doesn't look all worked up?
For instance, I think the Free Study will be to see who can do the best photoshop work. Meanwhile a very good picture, that could win any other challenge, won't even place in the top 50%.
So those of us, like me, with minimal photoshop skills probably won't enter.
I think you're over analyzing. The same things that applies in basic and advance will apply here which is you have to meet the challenge head on and do so with lots of wow factor. How you carry out that wow factor is up to you. Don't feel like you HAVE to apply a lot of editing. Your ideas and subject matter should dictate the type of editng you do if any.
The first time there was an Expert editing challenge I entered a photo that was straight from camera because my computer was on the fritz. It got around a 5.5, which (while not great) was better than I expected. It was a ho-hum sunset shot but had pretty colors. I actually think any photo that is well taken will do reasonably well in expert editing. The nice thing is that with expert editing you don't have to worry about staying within the rules with things like vignetting.
