For the barn problem there has to be an assumption that each end is completely open and it's the short end. This makes the anchor point the centre of a circle with a 50 m radius. The area of the circle is pi x R x R. The area of the barn is 20 m x 40 m so the grazing area is the area of the circle minus the area of the barn.
I haven't done these kind of problems in ages so am probably wrong.
and I believe the answer would be 2 to the 100th so...
1.2676506 × 10 to the 30th
or
1267650600000000000000000000000 minutes
or

Wouldn't it actually be the SUM of the geometric progession 2 to the 100th plus 1?, or actually a geometric series?? and for the life of me I don't remember how to solve a series or progression anymore so I guess I'll just shut up now, LOL.
If I remember correctly, the sum of a geometric progression is the next value in the progression minus one.
So, the first snap is at time 0, the second snap at 1 minute (2^0, as previously stated), and the third snap two minutes later (2^1). The 100th snap would occur after the wait of 2^98 minutes. Thus, the total time taken to get to that last snap is (2^99 - 1). That's a really big number and I'm not going to write it out because I don't have a calculator that has that many digits. I'm not sure if any of the previous written numbers are actually this value, but I'm quite certain this is correct.
If anyone is curious about this summation thing, consider this:
the geometric series of 2^x starts off with: 0,1,2,4,8,16,...
The sum of those numbers is: 0,1,3,7,15,... which is one less than the next value of the series.

you're on the right track..but the animal cant walk through the barn, therefore he cant utulize the full radius of the 50r circle

So...what's the correct answer?? inquiring minds want to know...

sure enough, it has been SO long since i have tried to do this, lol. Thanks for the correction!!
A mathematician was in dire need of money and sent a message to his friend which goes as follows
SEND + MORE = MONEY
How much money was needed by this geeky mathematician? This problem has a unique solution. Please don't ask me why this guy was so geeky to send this message instead of asking for the exact amount!
All right, I used Excel to figure out the answer, so unless someone can find fault in the way I calculated the answer in Excel (spreadsheet here) then this is the correct answer.
One thing I had originally forgotten about is it would be the sum of all the times together - not just multiplied.
Total time between snaps!
minutes 633,825,300,114,115,000,000,000,000,000
hours 10,563,755,001,901,900,000,000,000,000
days 440,156,458,412,580,000,000,000,000
years 1,205,108,444,800,980,000,000,000
centuries 12,051,084,448,009,800,000,000
millennia 1,205,108,444,800,980,000,000
The real answer is that it can't be solved because we don't know how long the person will live but I can say they will never make it to 100.
