There is a good chance I might be there on the 4th. I'll check this thread closer to the date. I've been in DC before for fireworks and it does take a little time to leave, even in the metro. It's not worse than other places I go for fireworks though.
Last time I went there was a cultural fair on the mall. Lots of food, music and dancing. Also, there is a park across the river that offers a great view of the fireworks.
Still planning to be there.
The Smithsonian always has the Folklife festival on the Washington Monument Grounds in late June and early July.
Some years were better for photography than others.
I think some budgets are better than others
I would definitely attend a DC gtg. I can use all the help I can muster and only 30minutes from home? Count me in! Maybe by then I'll have retired my ancient P&S and being working with better tools....
I'm still game... but something that could potentially be big is outside the scope of my planning skills. That said, if someone steps up to 'organize' I'll help as much as possible.
I don't think anything has really been planned yet. This thread was originally started by someone in 2006 who thought they might make it to DC this summer. That person has since mentioned they will not make it, but I am sure if there is enough interest there will still be some type of a GTG.
DC is HOT HOT HOT in the summer so keep that in mind if/when this thing does happen. If there is a GTG in the DC area it would most likely be better to do it sooner rather than later, or later rather than sooner. ;-)
I'd avoid any GTG planning between Memorial Day and Labor Day unless you enjoy sweating profusely in front of people you have just met. ;-)

September would be AWESOME for me. I don't have any weddings, and I have nothing else planned. I know it's later than sooner... but it would also give those further away more time to plan a ride there. :D
Should have done it this past weekend with all the cherry blossoms at peak bloom, along with late bradford pears, early eastern redbuds, and forsythia. This is probably the most beautiful time of year in DC for flowering trees. Once the dogwoods and azaleas blossom it will be the 2nd best time.
It takes me all of 20 minutes to get to DC (providing it's not rush hour ... but then I don't do rush hour anymore). I'd probably be up for a GTG but I totally agree about avoiding the hot months!!
