Hi all I recently encountered this website. It's a very good slideshow of pictures related to the impact of tchernobyl incident that happened in 1986.
You can hear the photographer during the slideshow commenting the pictures with a nice background music. Mostly it's children pictures affected physically and mentaly by this disaster. It's hard emotionnaly to watch it but it's really good!
By the way there's a publicity for 10 seconds when you enter the site so don't be surprised.
Sorry, tmph, I was being picky! I watched a few documentaries about Chernobyl and it was frightening how the authorities were so blaise about the dangers. The workers who were sent to clear up were exposed to lethal doses of radiation, many have since died.
For miles around the site, it is like a ghost town. People just upped and left everything, even food on plates etc. Children are born deformed, many live in orphanages.
But, we still haven't learnt that this disaster is awaiting many countries who rely on Nuclear power.

I'm glad you liked it. I see pubs on TV talking about the safety of Nuclear Power I don't know what to believe. I guess the Chernobyl incident would never happened if the engineers didn't ignore what was going on and stop the experiment/test. Since that incident, everybody got scared of Nuclear energy. If it didn't happened society opinion about nuclear power would be different I think.

one other issue was that, unlike most western nuclear power plants, chernobyl used graphite in their coolant system (graphite moderated coolant). when the temperature gets high enough, graphite ignites. it's like using coal as insulation in your house... it may work, but it may lead to other problems...

Well, US had their scare with Three Mile Island, there was Chernobyl, UK nearly has an accident, Sellafield.
With many other countries using nuclear power, the probability of a disaster increases. Pakistan, Iran, India all have this energy provider, it is going to happen again, there will another Chernobyl soon.
