Also for the record...this bird is wild and was at the top of a very large tree...no studio, lights, or domestication! And no...I didn't remove the sky.

Lol, indeed I did. One of my comments even reflected that exactly, he had no idea but his wife took a look and knew right away.
On the other hand ... a relatively common "acronym" used on message boards and in texting.
The idea here wasn't to visually represent the literal definition but to literally represent the translation. I shot a number of versions, including my original idea which was to have my other hand in-frame and down by my side. As I began shooting, I liked how the tighter crop looked from both a compositional standpoint and in the way highlighted the focal point.
BTW, this is a self portrait shot by me by myself through simple trial and error. I went out to an isolated area of desert about 1/2-hour before prime sunset to do setup and test. (And, yes, it was the sun; some people thought it the moon). I would mark my location, trigger the shutter with a wireless remote (ADIDT R3) with the camera set on Self-Timer, then use the 2 seconds to get positioned (head turned, hand up, etc). I used Remote Capture and my laptop for feedback, with the entire setup from the back of our Volvo XC90 (nice little workstation!). I had a lot of misses ... more than I had hits (i.e., sun in hand).
I didn't think much about the crop, specifically how my head was cut out of the top of the frame, then only exaggerated it through use of "letter box" framing. D'oh!
So, for the confused who haven't made it w-a-y down into the middle of the pack where my entry ended up, here 'tis:
SWW = Slippery When Wet
Heh ... although I had a separate window open to the acronym dictionary so I could look up any I didn't know or couldn't figure out/get, I thought SWW stood for Severe Weather Warning. Guess growing up in Colorado the term, at least, is so emblazened in my memory that those letters with that photo immediately registered. LOL.
Although my dad looked at it, and the first thing that came out of his mouth was "Light Over the Ring"? I figured it would not resonate with a lot of people but it was the only thing that came to mind at the time.
I thought for sure this would be a duplicate entry 'round here. =) Could have been done better technically, but I was running out of time... as always.

T o P =Tower of Power. it is an air traffic control tower. seemed pretty easy to me but i was wrong and apparently it is a bad photo.
Alright, my facsination with airplanes and the airplane/aerospace industry forces me to offer some clarification. Technically, these towers are for "ground controllers", not "air traffic controllers".
The actual "air traffic controllers" (ATCs) generally are in some smaller building (not a high building) with usually no view of the outside--it's all done with radar. In factg, it is not uncommon for ATCs to be located a few miles away from the airport. On the other hand, the ground controllers are mostly responsible for planes on the ground (taxiing, gate traffice, de-icing activities, etc.) They need to be up high to see the whole airport (runways, taxi-ways, and gates)

okie dokie. good to know. not sure why all those years i was in the Air Force fixing jets and working on the flight line, that everyone referred to those things as ATC towers. I was also pretty sure that the ATCs worked there. oh well blame the USAF for my ignorance:)

Not to take anything anyway from the unquestionably excellent imagery, but unless the English language changed overnight (possible I guess), both the first place and third place winners for this challenge should be disqualified as neither represent acronyms. An acronym is a PROUNONCABLE WORD made up from the initials of a group of words. RADAR is an acronym. NATO is too. FUBAR is indeed an acronym. DNA is not. MPH is not.
