How would you rate this photo? It's not mine of course...but it's the kind of shot I really like and one which I think might do very badly here. It was also taken with a plastic camera. Would it do badly? Why do you like it? Why don't you like it?
The "Diana Camera" portfolio taken as a body of work is fun.
I like photographs that make you question what is going on. In this case, the subject looks like a model with a model's expression - completely neutral. Had there been an expression of something - bemusement, anticipation, ... - it would have created some mystery - the crop alone does not create this feel for me.
Another glass of wine and I might have a different opinion.

TO be perfectly honest. I don't really care for it much. People seem to think it's "good for the equipment used", and that may be, but There isn't anything interesting to hold my attention. The sea foam is ok, but a little dark so we can't see it very well. I'm also not too sure of the crop of the face. Sure, it's myssterious, but when there's nothing else really to look at, it just doesn't seem right. It needs something more in my opinion. Maybe the rest of the face is all it would take, who knows.

I like the shot, toy cameras have a charm of their own. I own several toy (plastic lens) cameras including the one used for this shot, the Diana. Some of the border you see is actually the films negative. The Diana uses medium format film (120 roll) The picture does have a certain interesting quality to it. This is what attracts alot of people to the Holgas and Dianas. They usually have soft focus, heavy vignetting around the borders, and create some interesting images. The controls of the camera are very limiting, and its hit or miss on what you can get out of it. It takes awhile to learn the little nuances of each cam as they differ despite being the same brand. Light leaks are very common and cause some interesting flares on your shots. Check out Toy Camera for more info on Toy Cameras.
