This is vaguely off-topic, but I was intrigued when the challenges were posted because there's an implication that love and hate are opposites, and this actually isn't true. The opposite of "love" is not "hate"; it's "indifference"...
mk ... then how's about we use the same filter for guns, drugs (including alcohol and cigarettes), and violence? or perhaps a filter for each one specifically.

Cars and jobs aren't adult CONTENT. Cars bring children to and from where they need to go. They are around them each and every day. Seeing a photo of one isn't going to show them something offensive. Seeing someone shoot up heroin or all cut up and bloody will.

I'm with the OP. Why is nudity worse than violence? What's the harm in having a filter for each? I'm not for censoring at all. Just if I had a child on here I'd want them to be protected from things other than nudity.

Only nipple incident I can think of is that most everyone in this thread spent the first few months of their life sucking on one. At some point after that, they went nuts and started finding things to get offended about.

just one word: consistency - either create filters for everything that's considered adult content (tv and movies do it) or don't use filters at all.

Sure they are. Cars kill people all the time. Jobs kill people sometimes and mine makes me want to kill myself others. But yes, it was intended to be silly. I think that the idea that viewing cigarettes and alcohol is harmful or inappropriate is kind of silly, too. Whenever I go out into the world, I see people smoking and drinking. Luckily, I rarely see naked people as I'm out and about. Likewise, my co-workers, many of whom smoke at work, generally do not come to the office naked. If I got caught looking at a package of cigarettes while at work, I doubt anything would happen. If I got caught looking at nudies, I'd probably be fired. I'm not saying I personally have any issue with nudes. I don't feel that my retinas are singed upon viewing one and I don't have the filter turned on at home. But not seeing nudes when I'm not expecting to see them is one of the privileges afforded to us crazy Western folk.
That all being said, my initial post, if you reread it, had nothing to do with my opinion on the matter so I'm not sure why you directed your question towards me. I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing - I'm sure if enough people felt a violence and illegal drug use filter was necessary, one could be enacted.
I suspect that the reason we have limits on nudity but not other potentially offensive material is that the rules must correspond to the local laws in the part of the US where it's hosted.
Yes, we have an international community. That fact, and the variety of cultural norms represented on DPC, mean nothing legally.
In the US, there are very strict laws about nudity and sexual imagery. There aren't such laws about violent or drug-related imagery that I'm aware of. Yell about how you think it's silly all you want, but surely you don't want Drew or Langdon paying the price of crossing those legal lines?
Once you get beyond legal requirements, you're off in a swamp of conflicting moralities, and I don't blame them for not diving in.
That said, if they so wish, I would support a violence filter. I would leave it off, but it seems like a good option.

This is just my opinion from experiences, everything should be viewed on a case-by-case basis, per the individual.
If anyone has kids, I think the best way to have them learn and respect your views on things like nudity and violence, is not by restricting, banishing, and hiding them from reality. This may or may not apply depending on their intelligence and maturity. Yet who are we to establish those limits. Many times kids are more mature and intelligent then we think.
The best way, is to spend Time to Discuss views, and be a Guidance to them, not a Dictator. Talk to them often, Listen to them even more, then show them the really worthwhile pursuits in life. The more you restrict the more they rebel, just as you did when you were young at life.
Discipline, and discernment/good judgment, are the values to teach, through respect not restriction and censorship.
Just as an analogy to cigarettes, Filters or non-filters, you smoke either one, it can be harmful, but it is your right to smoke legally if you're at the age limit of your locale.

I'm in as well. This was a very difficult challenge for me. You might even call it 'challenging'. The technical details are minimal. The basic editing rules made no difference to me. The hard part was finding a subject. I really have a hard time with the idea of hating anyone or anything. My life is good, after all.
I have a feeling that this challenge is going to be an emotionally charged one, though. Good luck to all that entered. (I expect to be about halfway down the list when the dust settles.)
