jerry uelsmann is wonderful indeed. beautiful, dreamy and disturbing magery.
Minor White was one of the first famous photography instructors, as well as bing a superb and influential photographer. his theories about photography and beautiful imagery, from still lifes to erotic nudes, have influenced how we all see and work.

Arnold Newman his portrait of Stravinsky is perfect! well, as well as all the other works. he is my favourite portrait photographer so far.
William Henry fox Talbot was one of the first photographers, and is usually credited with inventing the positive/negative process. A 19th century Englishman, his imagery may be somewhat dated, but without him, our photography would be vbery different indeed:

that may be possible.... I never said she was good, only influential. I always thought her having wonderful opportunities, but not necessarily delivering.
She has been accused of being an Arbus clone - probably not entirely true but I suppose that connection could be made.
Gary Winogrand was possible the exemplar of modern street shooting. he carried his camera everywhere, and at times would simply point his camera at something he saw and click. i remember seeing a documentary on him, and seeing him strolling down the beach in California, holding his camera out and perssing the shutter seemingly randomly, was amazing. but the shots he captured; magic.
apparently, whenhe died, he left thousands of images unrpinted, and reels unprocessed. whether this is healthy or not, or the trappings of an obsessed mind, who knows...
