The "Comments Made" number only updates when the server recalculates after a challenge ends. The "Helpful" number updates whenever someone checks the little box on a comment you made. So if you comment on a challenge entry and someone says it was helpful (thereby thanking you for taking the time and trouble to make it ... or so I hear) you'll see the "Helpful" number in your profile go up, but you can't actually see that comment until the challenge ends, and it hasn't been counted in your "Comments Made" yet, either.
That's how I thought it worked anyway. Can't begin to explain where everyone's comments went today ... wait, I bet they went to sensitivity training!!
I just think someone is messing with our fragile little minds. I've lost a few "comments recieved" and a "Faved Photograph" and I haven't hidden anything. :(

No, comments don't leave. And the count has changed for people who haven't hidden portfolio shots, too (like me). I suspect behind the scenes work affected something.
if you're losing something you gave, it is because something has been deleted or hidden.
if you're losing something you received, well, hmmmmmmm... i seem to remember a while back, langdon had to run some scripts to recalculate some counts that had gotten out of sync; maybe that's what's going on here.

Mine didn't change - Inquiring minds want to know why others did- looked through onliners for weird stuff. jhonan may or may not be weird but 0 comments received is.

If you click on his zero you can read lots of non-existent comments.
