Ok, so I'm starting to get a bit fancy with subjects and lighting...so last night I turned my living room into a studio :) and shot away at the dead roses in the bowl using only a candle and a flash light (something I read on this site somewhere)
Out of the 50+ shots this one caught my eye...but I still have to go through the others...tell me what you think/like/dislike/could be improved...thanks.

LIke the mood and color. However the composition is a little off balance. The eye swooshes to the right and then stops aburptly. Needs something pointing back left or an additional small highlight in the lower left.
The composition is excellent, the lighting enhances the third-line rule. Because they are dried/half-dead or whatever roses it makes for a mood unique in my experience, as flowers are usually photographed at their best. Great idea, and work!
I really like this. It has a bleak mood about it -- dark, dead flowers, kinda like a love affair gone bad. The only nit I could make is to have a little more empty space on the right, but I would not argue for it, cause I am not sure I would like it once I saw it. Nice work.
I like it too. its sensual and dramatic. why don't you try selecting the right section verticaly, so that you only show the red part of the roses and still preserve the dry part coming from the corner and cropp the rest. IMO could be better.
Zadore, I like the mysterious feel of this, with the dark background, and the roses dimly lit. There is feeling of age because of the dried roses and the black background just seems to support this. Some of my still life pictures have that dark background and I like it very much. Here is One
Thanks everyone, this was really my FIRST attempt at a well thought out staged photograph taking as much as possible into consideration, and having you tell me that you like it really boosts up my motivation.
Hopefully I will find one or two more good pics from the bunch I took last nite and create a 'Dead Flowers Study' ;)
Off the topic, but I loved your corner pin wood reflection and I like that computer sunset shot on your web site a lot too. The dead flowers is well done, though doesn't appeal to me at all.
I agree with GeneralE that the photo could use a little backlighting to it. I think that the composition is just fine. Dead flowers is not my preference but it does have a nice, appropriate mood. I reeally like how you are trying to push the envelope with your compositions.
BTW, I was up in the CN Tower when I was 7 and it is one of my favorite memories.
