I had hoped for a better showing, but it was very difficult to get this shot down. I obviously need to work on it a bit more. One big mistake I made was making it a greyscale image. The color photos might have been better received. I probably took about 70 shots, looking for just the right angle and exposure. In seeing all of the other works, it seems like it finished where it deserved.
Many voters did not realize that it was a crystal cube, about 1.5 inches square, sitting on a black background with a piece of paper underneath it. I found this very unique crystal cube some months ago while searching for crystal spheres. It is actually a base to set a sphere on, having a concave indentation in one side. It made me think that maybe a photographer's comment should be allowed with the challenge submissions, but I know that idea has been kicked around in the challenge forums quite a bit.
This was also my first run with a new lighting kit that I bought, so it's definitely been a learning experience!
