The challenge description says: "photograph a sporting venue after the game is over and the players and people have gone home ". That does not include the photographer, obviously...
So, what if he/she decided to do a self portrait? Should the image be scored low in this case?
Anyway, I can't complain with my score at this point:

its funny how the pics i love love love end up with 4's and the ones i just submit last minute with an "ehhhhhh" outlook end up scoring high. welll.... i shouldn't speak tooooo soon though... who knows what i'll wake up to :) :) :). night peeps!!! goood luckkkk!!
I predict this will be a low scoring challenge. The subject matter was just not very interesting, and despite people's attempts, it just ISN'T VERY INTERESTING. LOL I tried to be broad minded, considering the criteria, but the highest score I gave was a 7. I love to give glowing gushing comments too, but I couldn't find much to say.
Well you know it's the old "I have the perfect shot and why don't they see it" syndrom. I am disappointed in where my score is at. But Such is life. I can't rail on the voters. I guess it is just the nature of this challenge like Judy put it "just ISN'T VERY INTERESTING".
Just want to say to anyone who entered the after the game challenge, GOOD JOB. I had such low expectations and there were some pretty good ones in there. Not too many DNMC's and only 80+ entries so it was easy to vote through them all. I'll be at the 400+ in Bokeh III for days.
I dunno, I found a few good shots in there.
I think part of it is that with so few entries, there may be the same percentage of better ones as usual but the actual number of them is low, so we perceive that it's worse than usual?
When I don't get hit in the face with WOW I remind myself that this challenge didn't lend itself easily to WOW, so how does it work with what the challenge DID ask for? Some shots then score higher than on first glance.
I did find, though, that a full third of the entries don't really meet the challenge if I want to be picky about it. (I'm not being THAT strict, though, in my voting.)
Voters seem to be focussing on things that the photographer had no control over. Sorry, I didn't design that stadium/field/court/whatever venue. I have no control over what colours they used or how they placed their ads or lights or if they constructed their bleachers and goalposts well. Life isn't perfect, and in basic editing we can't make it perfect (and, IMO, shouldn't always try to)!
Now, before I get called for "sour grapes" this isn't referring specifically to my shot. I know it's not great, though I do feel it deserves about average. It's just a generic comment based on listening to others and looking at all the entries.
I thought my concept was Ok but probably not super original in fact I expected more to be similar. From a technical point of view I new I was in trouble. Conditions weren't that great for the shoot and my limited PP skills couldn't really save it. (I won't say anything more about that until post challenge).
I submitted - withdrew - reworked - resubmitted about 5 times. I even swapped shots a couple of times in those cycles. I came real close to pulling it last night but I couldn't resist submitting because I thought the challenge was a pretty tough one.
So my score and comments thus far are confirming my suspicions. :-(
Oh well, I had fun trying and may even try to reshoot it when I get a chance.
Well said BeeCee. My problem is I thought my image had a little WOW. But you are right about the voters perhaps basing their vote on things that are out of our control. The funny thing is I am going to print my entry and hang it on my wall I dig it so much. I will just take solace in the fact that I love it.
I'm in Bokeh, but I probably will try to vote and comment all of the entries in this challenge (since it would be wickedly hard to comment all the bokeh entries.) So be patient - you'll eventually get a comment. Gotta get through commenting the first 20% in the railroad challenge and finish voting in that one first!

But you do have control over how to photograph a subject. IMHO, a *good* photographer can take a good photo of *any* subject.
