Along Hwy 41 from the 41/45 split north to Appleton things are in "full swing." It's a good year for color. We may be ahead a little in the eastern portion of the state, due to the very cold lake-effect weather in September that I believe affected us more than it did points west. I think it should be good yet by the 14th, though some specific areas may be past peak, depending on dominant species.
I would say its about the same here. also patchy in spots but we already have trees that changed and shed. I went for a ride out in the boonies yesterday and seen complete sections of wooded area changed around 70-80%. Will be going for a ride with my family tomorrow up around Lake Winnebago so Ill have a better idea what the north looks like by tomorrow night.
Right now I am off to buy some reflectors so I can do some outdoor portrait shots at the Lake tomorrow.

It's still too far out for any kind of reliable forecasts, but the extended outlook is pretty good going into the second half of next week.

any advice on Reflectors ? I am planning on going to Mike Crivellos in Brookfield. I figure they have best supply however Kirbic or Strangeghost could point me in a different direction if you know of better selection or deals in the mil or mad areas? while I am getting advice any suggestions on defusers or filters for my SB-600s? should I buy two of the same or mix and match ? My budget for today is around $250

Dunno if Mad City has a better choice, but Crivello's is about the only game in beertown. I don't buy anything from them except accessories, they know that they have very limited local competition and they price accordingly. A couple of their sales people are good, though.
The place I love to shop, but rarely get to anymore, is Calumet Photo's Bensenville,IL location. It's on the west border of O'Hare, not far off Interstate 90. The folks there are outstanding, especially Wendy and the store manager, James. Calumet's prices are nearly always very competitive. The IL sales tax does represent a small disincentive to a physical shopping trip to the store, however.

Ah, yup, proximity to that store can drain the wallet! From late 2001 until last October, I worked about 10 minutes east, near Touhy & Wolf. My bank account has only recently recovered.
I have bought a few things from Crivellos, Always had pretty decent service. But one day I had a really hard time getting someone to sell me a CP filter must have stood at the counter for 20 minutes before someone actually went digging through the drawers for me.
I have also done some shopping at Art's but the Pewaukee store seems to have a limited stock on everything and the other store is a pain in the butt to get to. Especially on a Friday.
went to arts in pewaukee for the heck of it,. found a 5 in 1 reflecter system for 60 bucks also picked up a softbox which I already think is awesome just with the few shots I took.
I am on my way out the door right now, Going to Drive up around the West Side of Lake Winnebago around the lake then cut over to Sheboygan and follow the Lake Front down to the Port Washington area then I will cut back this way. I will give you all an update when I get back and post a few photos also.
Wasted 5 hours driving around and made it about an hour north of lake geneva before throwing in the towel. About gave myself a heart attack hiking up to some scenic outlook at Kettle Moraine state park. Nothing at the top but a mom and two kids who I took a picture of (with her p&s).
Should have just bit the bullet and hauled ass up to door county or something. Wouldn't have taken that much longer and would have been a bigger payoff I think.
Here's hoping a whole lot of leaves turn in the next week...
I just got back, Not much color up in the Fondulac Area or Oshkosh for that matter. Appleton was a bit more but not much, Spoke to some people that drove down this morning from the UP they said that the colors were outstanding til they got to the Appleton area.
I will post some photos that I took today and a couple that I took about 4 miles from here a couple of days ago. I think we have more color here than I seen today nearly 2 hours north of here.
Well I'm reassured by everyones' experiences today. Plus 7 days and I think the color will have reached the Baraboo area in force. Now we just have to hope the weather delivers another picture perfect day like today!
