Well, I entered my first contest with DPC...I'm hangin' in there in the barely over "5" range....Not too bad, I guess! Looking forward (already) to entering another challenge!
Made it through 20% of the images, and left a comment on everything I voted for. Lots of nice shots, but looks like this time I'm wimping out and not voting 100%. I'm going outside, lighting a cigarette and smashing the hell out of every flower I see.

Good, you haven't voted on my flowers... no need to buddy, calm down and enjoy the abstract macro for a while. Come back to purple when you rekindle your desire to stare at purple flowers:-)
ps. I knew that there would be 100 flowers in this one, but I went for it anyway. Paying for it now.

[Rant] BTW, why do many folks resize their entries so small? Don't you folks know that the largest dimension can be up to 640 pixels? I thought I was voting on thumbnails on some.

Alot of people honestly don't know better and will also have files sizes that are too small and not up to the full 150 kb limit which can give them jagged edges. They don't use the save for web feature I think and simply save the photo at the file size limit. If you or anyone for that matter, has time try and leave them a comment and give them this link to help them out. I try and do it when I can but haven't had a chance to go through and vote/comment yet. :) Its too bad too because I am sure they spent time on their entry and it is going to get slammed because the last step they did totally screwed them over.

I was all the way up to 6.7 for abit but then dropped. Still very happy though :)

And that is climbing up from 4.3 in beginning. Real misery...
Even beeing very tough on my photo i still expected around 5 from no mercy voters.
Ok at least im not stressing about it.:)
At least it finally went above 4 by a little. The comments tell me that the photo is pink, when in fact the background is PLUM. It's purple, I tell ya .. Purple!!

P.S. sorry to have offended those with an aversion to flowers .. and now I know better for the next challenge :)
I even checked it against the color chart someone posted. Of course I have some technical problems, so combine the two and here I sit.
Still, you are a few points higher than my score. Must be the dreaded flower I included to make another item stand out. That flower had not been the intended focus, but it certainly looks like it from the votes!

After an ever-so-slight overnight dip, my score is beginning to bounce back. It looks like it may be you and I for the checkered flag, jdannels!

Since that comment was made, I finally figured out how to get a bigger size while staying within the parameter of the 150kb. I would bet that newbies like me with thumbnail submissions are sacrificing dimensions to meet the 150k. Now, I choose the size first of 640 (as you suggested) and then compress the file using the percentage slider in ACDSee until I get under 150k. THANK YOU!!
