PS I'm sometimes crap at posting stuff too but between hub and I we usually manage to post stuff pretty quickly.
Here's a snippit from Alamy's September newsletter regarding the upload system.
At present we're carrying out extensive internal testing. Following this we'll be carrying out some testing with a small group of Alamy Contributors at our offices as well as another small group of Contributors based at their homes or offices. This will allow us to test AlamyUpload in a real environment with a sample of our future users. Our final testing stage will be to trial the facility with a group of 150 contributors, chosen based on worldwide location in order to represent Alamy's contributor base.
Once we're happy that AlamyUpload meets with our Contributors' requirements, we will begin rolling it out gradually. We will not release the facility to all contributors at once, in order that we can be confident that the system continues to operate smoothly with a large number of users. We'll be letting you know the timescales for the roll-out as soon as we can.
I've been holding off on submitting, too, until they get their crap together with uploading... but I think I'm going to go ahead and submit a collection.
I have a selection of my 10 best photos, upsized in CS2 to just over 48MB using bicubic. Do we need to have model releases for the initial QC batch?

They never ask you to submit model releases. However, for any photos where you need a release, you should keep one on file. Once your photos pass QC, you can update each one before they go live into their collection. This is where you specify model released or not, and the license type (RF or L).
After submitting to alamy for ages, I have finally got a sale through MyLoupe also! so if there is anyone out there that deal thru myloupe also, stick with it, business must be picking up for them.

That's good to hear, I was thinking about dropping them because it's a hassle to prep so many different sizes of images. Maybe the newsletter they send out monthly is truthfull about the rising sales (sometimes I wonder because their home page is lame and never changes).

I'm very fortunate to have bumped into this forum and this thread in particular. I have been involved with photography for some 36 years and recently started to think about selling stock photos.
After reading much of this thread and learning from you guys, I decided to send off a test CD to Alamy this morning. I hope they will accept my images as I upsixed these from D100, D70 and even a D2H (testing the water). If accepted, I should go get a 10MP Nikon body to make life easier for myself, although I have Genuine Fractals, PS CS2, Photozoom etc.
I must thank everyone for their generous contributions here and hope I can also share some of my experiences in due course.
Looking at our submission history, a little under a month from the received date until processing is complete - not sure if QC is much quicker (or slower!) than that at the moment, for what it's worth our QC went through in a little over two weeks, but that was a long time ago.
Don't get so hung up on the time it takes for the mail, processing times, QC times etc. etc. Just put it out of your mind for a while and go out and shoot, shoot, shoot, and edit, edit, edit. Get your next CD/DVD ready. The times for these various functions at Alamy vary a lot. So don't sweat it. It will get there.

Once you're past the QC stage you can hope that they get their upload system working soon.

Well I'm well past the QC stage. I'm thinking that I might wrap the CD case in too much packing tape and the guy at Alamy got tired of trying to open the package last time ;) ... or maybe it just got lost in the mail. Oh well I'm sure that mine is not the first that got lost on the way to Alamy. That is one of the reasons they are going to the upload system. Not sure if I'll like it any better. Sending 8 to 12 Mb per photo will be very time consuming and many high speed carriers are limited to 10 mb file size already. I expect there will be real issues unless they again reduce the file size requirement
There should be no size limit to an FTP transfer -- you can leave it running overnight.
Also, they allow TIFFs with LZW applied -- a typical 48MB TIFF will probably get down under 10-12MB anyway. Additionally, they will probably allow ZIP archives containing several TIFFs, which should realize similar size savings of 25-90% of the original.
