Make sure that you have a USB reader that has, in tiny print, the words "Hi Speed" in red, above the blue USB logo.
It's funny because the packaging on the USB readers often goes on and on about how fast the reader is, even if it is NOT one of the "hi speed" devices. The ones that are NOT hi speed take about 25 minutes to download a gig - sounds exactly like what you have! The ones that do say "hi speed" take about 5 minutes to download a gig.
Of course, part of the speed depends on the card itself. But I think too many people are unaware that their card readers (with confusing packaging) are slower than they thought. |

I was referring to an Image tank, not a card reader. It's not always practical to take the laptop to a photo shoot.
Having 3 CF cards is pretty good for not having to switch too much, but I could imagine that even that might get a bit nuts on an all-day outing or weekend/week long vacation with the kids.
Nothing better than having a fast 80GB image tank in the bag... highly useful.
PS. I never buy anything that doesn't have the USB Hi-Speed logo on it and I find plenty of devices don't measure up.
I was greatly disappointed to find that there are NO firewire card readers available in this country after checking around 50 stores. Weird, seeing as many are probably made here.
