My retarded snapshots have gotten better scores than my well-planned, thought out shots. My studio shots have done horribly.
I know I am alone on this... but I don't like the winning photo of the Fauna challenge. I think that lizard photo is over saturated and not that clear at all. It would take a much better camera to really capture the skin of that suckah. It seems like just a snapshot. Not a bad one, but nothing compared to many of the other submissions that did very poorly. Just my opinion.
So are you going to sell me your Canon 10D for the price of the point and shoot since you haven't won with the 10D yet (or for that matter the E-20). I'll take it :)

but it is just an interesting commentary about how sometimes things that we didnt 'over think' end up exceeding our expectations more than those we 'micro-managed into submission' :)
Well every week i struggle with: "Should i enter this in because I really like it but others might not? Or should i enter this one in because I don't like it but i think DPc might like it?" Usually i pick the one i like... but that's just me.

Well we all know THAT's not true!
However, one shouldn't shy away from snapshots as if they were some lesser form of photography. Taking excellent snapshots shows your innate skills at work. Perhaps with studio photography you simply over-evaluate everything too much, or your innate skills are undermined or put aside when EVERYTHING has to be created by you.

Mavrik, I would say that photography is flexible enough that how "good" a photo is largely depends on what message it is able to convey, or relates to the viewer.
I like getting the different comments. I enjoy seeing if anyone "gets" what I was trying to portray and the diversity in opinions about a single photo. If I get a good score fine (I've never actually gotten a good score!), if I don't fine, I'm here to have fun and learn a little (or a lot) in the process.
