Here is a photo that some people have told me is good, and I like it a lot myself, but I was too worried to enter it into the challenge because of the nature of DPC.
I agree with the people who said because of the nature of dpc, it would not have done well. The animals are moving out of the frame and are not sharp. The nature as I've seen it is that those things would bring it down. People may also say it's 'too blue.' lol
*shrug* It's a good shot - but far from your best animal shot (from the sale post).
A 10 from be because I love the color and the 'mood' created by the blur in this photo... it seems to have a 'fantasy' quality to it along with a nice sense of action and 'urgency'.

You are very right it does have a fantasy quality to it, very relaxing and has its own sense of freedom to roam.
well. it would have been hard to not see it as a mistake. esp in the context of the voting on here. perhaps if it was part of a series and they were all like that it might reinforce that you 'meant' to do that. but as it is, it looks like major cam shake in a low light situation. not to say it doesnt look cool, but not the shot to sub to dpc.
If you do a horizonal blur, that's fine, but the photo has both a vertical and horizonal movement which suggests camera movement. It's best to have it move in a direction, than omni-directional because it gets confused with just a badly handheld photo.
I tried to pan along with them, but then don't swim in a straight line. As they flap their wings they bob up and down, which is probably the reason there is vertical and horizontal blur.
What i meant was if there was a blur up and left, then it's fine, but they seem to be a blur both UP and Down and left....
Also, there are some glare on the glass.... should try using a polarizer to cut through that, though it will make your shutter speed slower....

This looks abstract and painterly, not a good quality on DPC, but I still think it is a gorgeous shot. Maybe that I love vivid color and unusual vs cliche photography and anything to do with water. It's more than that, but hard for me to put words to describe it. I think I would have rated it an 8.
