As far as all the debate, I think it goes something like this:
(1) Your photo must still be a single exposure. No composites. If you can't send a single exposure to SC for validation then it's out.
(2) The literal artwork rule still applies, but this does not mean you can't include snippets of other photos in an interpretive manner. I recall SC saying that most of what gets reported for literal artwork is not, because if you do so little as take it from an interesting angle it's no longer literal. I think this is what's causing most of the confusion, people referring to the inclusion of other artwork and composite photos as the same thing.
(3) The Steve brush idea is a divisive issue amongst SC, but really isn't worth a lot of debate because it's a silly idea at best and the voters probably wouldn't get it anyway. You're better off to just scrap the idea. Seriously.
(4) All the rules parsing on this is, in my opinion, silly. This is supposed to be a light-hearted welcome back challenge. This isn't going to be regarded by anyone as a big serious ribboner. Chill out, have fun, and stop worrying! (That goes for SC, too.)
As far as I can tell, this has been asked but not answered. Does the entry have to be within the time frame of the announcement (like most challenges) or is it open to any picture - I have a great picture I took a few weekes ago. I too am sure this is a 4th grade question, but I need to know.

The time frame requirement was not waived. Unless it's specifically mentioned, assume that the rule stands as per usual.
I am more confused than ever now...I might sit this one out. I went through the trouble of making a STEVE BRUSH and now it seems it's not going to cut it...this might have started as a good idea, but it seems to be losing its original intent. Perhaps the SC had an idea in their head about what they were looking for but the way it has been conveyed has left more questions than answers...I look forward to the fun and multiple disqualifications ;-)
I had recieved email confirmation yesterday from an SC member that the steve brush was legit. For the life of me I can not find that email. But it was confirmed that the use of the steve brush was good to go. I submitted another ticket though to confirm my confirmation. I have no desire for another dq.
Ok so if I arranged several photos on my desk and placed a twig on it to make it three dimensional (i.e. no longer a literal representation) would that be ok? Then in photoshop I could use these photos like putting together a puzzle, cloning out and moving stuff around to get the final image. Since there is no major element rule that would all be ok. Is that a valid entry?

My guess would be as long as you have some part of the twig so that you have something 3d in the shot it would be. INteresting question though.

Is there any place in the rules that deals with removal of elements besides the major element rule which is not applicable in this challenge? We have always been allowed to remove minor elements so removal of a major element should be allowed when that rule is not currently in place. Although I agree that hasn't been clarified in this thread.

I based this on Langdon's "clarification" saying any size or shape of brush is legal. Now I have Konador saying a Steve Brush will likely be DQ'd, and I am feeling a tad annoyed, when all I wanted to do was have fun...
Sigh... I'll probably just sit it out; it ain't worth risking a DQ...

I agree this needed to be a all out do anything challenge even if its just for bragging rights. IMO I think it would have been fun to have steve in it and be as creative as one can be in good taste and fun. So if it stands the way it is its gona not be good. So once its over how about a post your best no holes barred in the forum?
What is this challenge.... take a pic of any place? Like, under the fridge, or in the woods or something? and am i sposed ta put steve in it somewhere?
