this is of the river mouth opening in to the harbour at the country place my whole family shares, and has done for nearly 70 years. it's beautiful there. no tv, cell 'phones, plumbing, game electronics... as kids we ran free, swam all day every day, and never bathed - we didn't need too - we swam, right? the salt would build up in our hair until we could make cranial topiary with it. mackerel run every august, and we catch breakfast. or lunch. whichever. the kids sleep in the barn. when it rains, we read or drew, or played scrabble, monopoly or cribbage. every year the kids put on a play, and the adults payed to troop into the barn and watch us perform.
now there's a new generation of kids. they still aren't old enough to run free, but i can't wait until they are.
You see, this is my oldest son. He is 7 years old. For the first five years of his life he had virtually no hearing at all. It took five years of pleading for help before someobdy listened and when they took action. he heard almost for the first time in his life.
Judi, I'm very curious to know what they found your son's problem to be. That photo truly is priceless knowing the story behind it.
Apart from the fact that like his siblings he is Autistic, his ears produce a very sticky wax, unlike normal people and it hardens within his ear to the point they have to cut it up inside to be able to remove it. He has to be helped weekly and even then it doesn't keep on top. The other week his teacher informed me that she now knows that when his ears have gone again as he taps her to get her attention. We are pleased for that. He knows how to lip read without realising it. He goes back for more treatment next week....they are unsure what they are going to do. He is a beautiful child that has just started to smile in the last 6 months...and it is a beautiful smile.
My new favorite is now entered into the Free Study challenge... I hope soon you will all know why :-) It's very NOT my style, but I think it turned out really well, so much I ordered a 16x20 of it. :-)

I like this one. It was late May, but still quite cold. We decided to go for a drive in the country. I brought my camera. It was about to rain, it seemed. We passed by a series of small hills, and I suddenly got an idea for a photo. Alex would have to help. We found a small place called Innanen, and we decided to stop. It was very pretty there. I asked Alex to stand on a small rise, and look out at the countryside, and I took this picture. Because it came out exactly the way I had hoped, it's my favourite.
Not only because it's a very emotional picture in all ways, and the story behind it is still hitting me hard, but also because at that photoshoot I realised I could switch a button in my head and continue shooting, without getting emotional. I never expected I could do that.
i love this picture. everytime i look at it i smile. these are two of my thirty-three cousins. i have a huge family and love every single one of them with all my heart. the innocense in this picture is what really makes it my favorite. they are both doing everything their little minds can think of to save a butterfly they found with a hurt wing. it was so precious. also, my cousin Chase (left) is only seven but has already experienced some tough things in his life that no one should ever have to experience... seeing him having so much fun and being so caring makes my world spin 'round!
This is my favorite because everytime I look at it I wonder what she was thinking and it gets my own mind wandering. I like to capture emotions and to invoke emotions with the pictures I take.

I love this photograph. It was the first photo I ever put in my favourites shortly after becoming a member.

Finally framed some prints of these this year. They are sitting in my living room on the floor. I can't figure out where to put them! (We have a lot of other art on the walls).
