It's the first one I've entered with the Olympus that isn't too dark or out of focus. *grin* I know it's a boring pictuer at first but if you look closely you will see like a mystery puzzle why I took this shot.
He is sitting in the Gazebo, the only shelter with a view in the park (instead of patroling.) Look closely and you can see the top of a water jug and a radio (two way?) on the table in front of him (this is not just a momentary sit down it's a camp out.) He's talking on his cellphone. I leand way over the banister and framed by LCD so I could include what he was looking at.
Oh and when I walked past he was complaining to his buddy about his girlfriend. The snake!
BTW if I had shot from the other side it would be a whole other story.
THIS image of mine was terribly misunderstood. I had decided NOT to go with any of the cliche' shots. I wanted to make a statement about those less fortunate than average. Actually I figured the symbolism was clear, but obviously not. Well I am not bummed about it, just realize that I assumed too much. Take a look and see what you think with the explanation included. Of course I realize that a picture is worth a thousand words, and it shouldn't take a thousand words to explain a picture. I am learning! ;-)

I really like the idea, the flowers and the blood were very strong and make a powerful statement, very good concept shot. It may have just been too "political" for most. I am wondering what foreground/background it would go best with....

I consider this to be among my best shots ever. I know a lot of people thought the shadows detracted from the image, but I like them. I think they add an element that sets this image apart from similar shots.
I have 3 favorite shots so far (heh, that narrows it down) that I really like
one of them is in this week's challenge so I can't link to it but the other two: The bible one I thought was a bit underrated but the Wall Street one I thought did well for my first entry :)
That is a really good photo mci and obviously many agreed since it placed in the top 5!!! I think it's just right, shadows and all. Keep in mind that some people are offended by nudity. Not me!

I forgot to mention earlier that I know that my image wasn't technically perfect. I was just surprised that it was so misunderstood. I am always very open to learning how to improve and would have welcomed constructive criticism concerning technique and that sort of thing. But I learn lessons from the good and bad experiences, so I count it as beneficial in the long run. I sure didn't mean to offend anyone. By the way, I received a few emails saying it made sense to them after reading my comments at the end of the challenge. I appreciate that.
That is so interesting. I just found this image last night looking through old challenges, and I love it. Great glamour shot.

I think I'm proudest of my submissions to the Advertising and the Shadow challenges, both because they effectively communicated "the message" as well as meeting the challenge, and because they each were conceived, prepped, and shot within about 30 minutes...
Zeissman, I don't know why, but for some reason that photo just freaks me out. She is a beautiful little girl. She has the biggest brown eyes. It would have been a good one in the fear challenge for me. :)

psych, I really liked your bible photo, It reminds of those cold nights when I sit by the fire with my kids reading the bible. I have good feelings when I look at it.
GeneralE, I love your pictures because they have a lot of meaning behind them. It is neat to see kids getting along when some parents have such a hard time with it.
Konador, Your castle photo I would have to say is one of my favorite. I love everything about it.
shortredneck, Your photos would make a great shot for this week. I love the flowers in the dark. Beautiful colors.

Thanks for the compliment Sonifo. I got to looking at the dark backgrounds on those two submissions and decided to do a set up shot instead of my patriotic submission from earlier in the week. It came out perfectly after using a manual setting on my camera that I just discovered. As usual, it probably won't place but I'm technically very happy with it and I think it's fairly attractive.
Can't wait to see it. I decided not to go with a plain background. I'm not sure if mine will do good, because it isn't a solid color of black, white or grey. I really like it. I am very proud of it. I don't think I would have taken it if it wasn't for this challenge. Good luck on yours and good luck to every one else.
