I'd love to see a thread that shows the submitted "straight" photo -vs- post editing once the voting is over. Would love to see what people are doing before and after.
My Flower is at 6.91, my straight at 6.85. I shot them during the same session, but I was a whole lot more careful that I had the settings, composition, light, etc. than usual.
These scores are a whole lot better than my norm. I think this has taught me that I need to slow down and think about what I am doing.

I dont need anyone to tell me my editing is horrible. I'm sure through trial and error, I can make some of my photos 10X better. But, this straight challenge had me enter to see if my ORIGINALS were worthy, which is where it all begins....no?
my 'Straight' entry is doing better than my 'Flowers' entry. Does that mean I suck at editing ?
I have you beat... My straight is working on my personal best, while my flower is working on my personal worst. Clear signs that I need to no longer edit a single photo.
If you take the average of my two current challenge scores, its about my average. But my straight score is really tanking. And I thought it was pretty good. Boring colors and subject must be killing it... :)

It's refreshing going through the entries for 'straight' - I'd almost forgotten what real, unsaturated colours looked like! :)
I would bet many of the entries had the saturation, contrast and sharpness boosted in camera not to mention the use of camera filters to warm or otherwise tint the image. Reality is hardly ever captured and entered in these challenges even in this one.
I think we all need to edit a little less sometimes. I don't use photoshop though, I us a regular HP editor. I was thinking about getting photoshop, but I think I may just wait for a while. My 'plum perfection' from 'straight' is on my profile as well as the edited version if you wanna see.

Well I guess if you look at it that way, anything other than our own eyes will ever capture reality.
Cannot wait to see which camera makes it the most; for lets say the top 50.
I ended up using a shot in Stationary that I took for Straight from the Camera. BUT, I had to use the RAW file and re-edit it as it was too heavily edited out of the camera. Does that make sense? I really like the way B&W images turn out in camera but the color ones are too much for me to look at.
Sometimes you get lucky. This just shows how little PP can be needed at times. Still won the ribbon (gives hope to those who feel PS is still an exercise in futility). The no-edit version has only simple RAW conversion to it, likely no more than in-camera JPG would do. The edited one mainly has mild contrast enhancement and some USM passes.
