So basically what this thread is saying..that no matter what challenege I enter I will get several DNMC's even if it fits the actual definition.
For stationery - the fact that the DPC said it's not as dumb as it sounds and then lists it specifically to paper means that shot that doesn't have paper in it, but is considered stationery will get many many DNMC.
For stationary - Anything that isn't moving really fits the category, but if someone goes out and takes a photo of grass, they'll probably get several DNMC's.
Looks like a lose-lose week for me. Wish me luck.
I know how you feel. I have an idea I really like for "stationery" but... well, looks like I'll be DQ'ed if it doesn't have paper in it... can ANYONE clear this up for sure?
edit: the challenge says that "lots of people have submitted extraordinary images of paper" which really says nothing about the challenge, just that people have submitted pictures of paper...
Don't forget people can be stationary too. ;~D I have a great idea, but no way to pull it off. It would involve a male model, lots of costuming and make-up. (sigh)
I came and read this entire thread hoping to get a better, more clear definition of the stationary challenge... I am utterly and totally more confused now than before I read it... :( Maybe I'll just skip this challenge all together...
I didn't see this posted yet but the Stationery challenge description does not refer to only paper anymore:
"Simply photograph stationery."
Think of anything you could buy at the stationery store. It is OK to include items like paper clips, labels, envelopes, receipt books, etc., not just custom-printed letterhead and business cards.
IMO pretty much anything that isn't moving would fit, but to score well will likely need a shot that emphasizes that. Something like... hmmm... a large boulder in the middle of a busy bike path, where riders have to detour either side of it... a vehicle overgrown in weeds... Juxtaposition between current movement or potential for movement and lack of it?

I have no idea how this will do. I struggled for days to come up with something. My wife had dream about it. I used the setup as she described. We'll see!
Urgh, now I'm angry. I'm from Iceland so I'm not very good to speak english. When the challenge was announced I didn't know what stationery meant. Th challenge description (which they've changed) told that stationery meant some thing you write on. I thought that would mean everything you write on. Today I took a photo today of something that you write on but you don't send your friend by mail. It took a lot of time to set up the subject. I think I've used about 4 hours on it, 3 on making the subject and 1 taking the photograph and process to the web.

A "Stationer" is someone who sells "stationery"; "stationery" is generally defined as materials used for writing. My best advice to you would be to avoid shooting anything you can't buy at a stationery store, which I'm sure you must have some of in Iceland?
you COULD try pushing the envelope (so to speak) by photographing, say, petroglyphs and calling them "Stone Age Stationery", but that's asking a lot of the voters, I think...
I was going to enter this in stationery, but I entered a diffrent picture into stationary instead. Is this the worst picture of stationery you have ever seen? My Dad saw it and laughed at me...lol. It is pretty bad, but I couldn't think of anything else!
