ok, let's keep things straight here. The musical is one of the few American-invented art forms.
You MUST be kidding right? If they didn't invent it, the Indians and the "Bollywood" film industry have made more musical in one year than the US in 20.

Sadly, the U.S. has completely dropped the ball in the musical department, both in film and on the stage, but we did invent it. You can draw the line in different places, but many consider "Oklahama" the first true musical.
oMG!! IMO Office Space is one of the funniest movies out there! But you have to work in an office to get it... do you work in an office?
I do work in an office, and...while the movie had some moments (I do like Stephen Root), I thought it would be a lot better after hearing friends say it was good.

Ha! I guess when it's perfect, then it's not parody anymore, eh? :)
Just to add a scholarly (?) note here, "Grease" is an update of "West Side Story", and both of THOSE are remakes of "Romeo and Juliet", which of course is the seminal star-crossed-lovers story in English literature. The continuing popularity of these movies, once you get under their faddish surfaces, speaks to the enduring, mythopoetic nature of the story itself.
Of course, all that Bear_Music says is true.
However, the most important fact to keep in mind is that the movie makes women horny.
You pretend to be (or are) as engrossed in the movie as your wife, significant other, girlfriend or date and you are in the running for incredible sex that night. I would not easily dismiss that possibility. :)
