I used to have a small print shop in west Mobile off Schillinger's Rd., Lived in the Cottage Hill area for a while then in the Old Dauphinway Historic District. Now I'm in Fort Worth, TX but I go back each year for Mardi Gras. My son's still live in Mobile.
Then I checked again with 14 votes... 5.375 ish.... Not so cool...
Down to 4.389 now... @#%*Q^*!#^$& ?
I got one comment that told me the shot wasn't bright enough... ??? It's a 30 second challenge and it's obviously taken outside at night... (I think there are enough pictures like this in there that this doesn't affect anonymity)...
What the heck?
This score is heading down to my worst yet... worse than a snapshot of a bunch of leaves on an ugly ford fiesta... SERIOUSLY!
maybe I'm upset because it's my first pic with the DSLR... or perhaps it's the fact that where I had to stand to take the shot was so filthy and polluted, an hour of my 'shot preparation' after the shoot was scrubbing my shoes with a toothbrush...
ouch.
EDIT to keep it concise...
Over 50 votes now and the score went up to the 5 range again... already dropping vote by vote...
Considering that I paid attention to things like composition, lines, light, color, sharpness and overall theme, it's starting to feel like I should start investing in the "Troll's How to... for DPC"...
Although I will point out that at 85% in the voting, I've become quite disheartened with the rather large number of blurry, undersized pictures of nothing in particular...

WOOHOO!!!! I got a validation request!!!! My first ever. I feel like de-flowered virgin.
Congrats larryslights on your first validation request. I hope it turns out fine. ;-) I know how you feel, I've had a few of those requests myself (and the last time it didn't turn out so well - LOL). It's a rite of passage here though, so wear it proudly.
Hopefully, it'll climb in the days to come. Although I guess I can't complain - this is the first time I've ever attempted an exposure of this length. And I'm happy with how the shot turned out.
I do not disagree with the voters, if they don't like it, they don't like it. I just wish more people would tell me what I could do to improve it.

I have cut back on making comments because I feel that, given my level of mediocracy (sp), I have no intellegence to pass on.
Middle scoring images get the fewest comments here, unless you ask. I've left a comment on your last submission and will look at others.
I'm caught in the morass of mediocrity myself, but it doesn't stop me from giving my opinion.
BTW my current score in the 30 second challenge is 5.9167, with 78 votes and heading up. Looks like it will be my first or second highest score. But the two comments so far are quite negative (but still appreciated).
